Our daughter was obsessed with birthday parties. She would go around the house singing the Happy Birthday song at the top of her lungs. So when Halloween came around, I decided to make her into a birthday cake.
For the birthday cake costume, I went to the craft store and bought 2 of their largest embroidery looms, cream colored fleece, remnants of pink and yellow fleece, glow in the dark fabric paint and some other fabric paints and trim for decoration.
I cut out a circle from the cream-colored fleece with a generous seam allowance. Then I cut a strip of fleece wide enough to reach from my daughter's shoulders to her knees with a large seam allowance and long enough to go completely around the circle. I sewed the circle to the length of the other piece. Then I attached the top and bottom to the embroidery looms. I cut out arm holes and made an X in the top for her head. Then all that was left was to decorate!
I made a hat with the pink fleece by tracing a winter hat of hers to use as a pattern. I painted the yellow with the glow in the dark paint and then cut it into small strips. I gathered and tied them together to make a little puff ball. I attached that to the top of the hat. So when she put on the hat, her head was a candle on her birthday cake.
I am a Cupcake Fanatic and I am constantly picking up anything that has cupcakes on it. So it was only natural for me to be a Cupcake costume for Halloween! I even had sprinkles!
I used a plastic tub container, which I cut out the bottom. Wrapped some poster board, which I pleated and painted around that. Glued poly fill on top for icing and pom poms for sprinkles! I tied wide ribbon to my cupcake to make straps. I even whipped up a cupcake for my headpiece with a strawberry on top!
I added several pins with catchy phrases like "Cupcake Whisperer" and "Muffins are just ugly cupcakes". On the backside was a sign that said "Powered By Cupcakes!" And the best was my fake laminated sparkly cupcake purse!
I really had fun in this costume; it made all of my patients smile and also my co-workers!
We came up with this idea for a devil's food cake costume after looking at your website for quite some time. We liked the cupcake ideas, but my daughter wanted to be "scarier," so somehow we came up with devil's food cake!
We took a laundry basket and cut out the bottom for her legs. We tied red ribbon through it to help hold it up over her shoulders. Then we spray painted 1/2" thick foam brown to look like cake. We cut felt to look like frosting (The craft store had textured felt that looked like fancy frosting!) and we hot glued the foam around the basket and then the felt to the foam around the top.
We added a store bought devil mask and pitchfork and she is ready to go!
My sister and I decided to go as two cupcake for Halloween this year. We made the brown (no sew) tutus. We then bought wigs and corsets. Cut felt to be sprinkles on the pink icing wigs. And made and "whip cream and cherry" headband.
