MMM. I love ice-cream, don’t you? What could be better then than becoming an ice-cream cone?
Materials: -Garbage can -Candies or other brightly colored small objects -A red ball or other item that resembles a cherry -Batting -A hat to build off of
Start with the garbage can. All you need is brown colored fabric to cover it. I glued this on with hot glue. I didn’t do this, but you can make a checkered pattern with a marker as well.
Next, you will need a structure to hold up the cotton batting. I used my favorite technique of cardboard rings. There are bigger rings at the bottom and smaller ones at the top and reinforcement vertical cardboard strips run between the cardboard rings. Some of the more crucial rings also include wire as a reinforcement.
Once you have the frame, adding the cotton batting is easy. Just drape the fabric over the frame and secure with tape or hot glue. To make the hat, I attached extra cardboard to an old helmet with hot glue and covered that with batting as well.
Finishing touches are important. I glued gumballs and candles onto the costume to represent candy and sprinkles. Then, I found a little red hat for the cherry, but pretty much and red round object would work.
Coolest Homemade Ice Cream Man and Truck Costume 2
by Kevin E.
This year, I decided to create an Ice Cream Man and Truck costume.
I made the truck out of 1/4" plywood, screws, glue, hinges and velcro; I then fastened it to a wheelchair. I had my menu for different types of ice cream, tiny doors on the back so that people would have access if they wanted to push me, working break lights, working headlights, a wind shield, horn, side mirrors, a license plate on the front and back and, finally, bumpers on the front and back.
I was able to store a small cooler on the inside and I did indeed pass out freeze pops and popsicles to the crowds gathered at the three events I attended. The truck also had a giant rotating ice cream sandwich on top that played music. The windshield was able to be folded down and the hood lifted out, in case I wanted to get out and walk around.
The whole costume took me about eighty hours to build and it was a very fun project. Last but not least, I, as the traditional Ice Cream Man, wore the white pants and white shirt to go along with the black belt and black shoes, complimented by the white and black hat.

These ice cream cone costumes were made through instructions on FamilyFun, a great crafting magazine.
You use stuffed womens/girls stockings for the swirl of the ice cream. Glued to the bottom of that was a circle of foam as a belt, which I duct taped together and made suspenders to hold it up. The ice cream was glued to the top and vinyl (from fabric store) cone was glued to the bottom of the foam belt. Lots of hot glue! The sprinkles are drinking straws cut up and glued on.
For the top I used baseball caps (I had to sew ribbons on for stability because they were a bit top heavy). I hot glued more stockings and a Styrofoam ball, painted red with a pipe cleaner stem as the cherry on top.
These homemade ice cream costumes were a HUGE hit!
I decided to make my own costume, I really wanted to be something cute and sexy, so I decided on a Homemade Ice Cream Cone Costume. Everything was made by hand, and sewn.
Two silk material pieces of pink and brown, we inserted elastic in them and stuffed it with tulle. The bottom was a nude color lycra that was sewn to my exact measurements, and then I painted on the waffle squares. I wore nude fishnets, and nude shoes. I also made a cherry with a cut out of white fabric underneath for the whip cream. The cherry was covered in red glitter, and had a stem, I attached it to headband.
I absolutely love this costume!! I'm a perfectionist with detail, so I worked hard on it.
