Homemade Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompa Couple Costume
My boyfriend and I were looking up costumes online and wanted to stay away from the typical "hot guy" and "hot girl" costumes. So, I ran across an Oompa Loompa and it was meant to be. We both decided that he'd be Willy Wonka and I'd be the Oompa Loompa. And that worked really well because I'm very short as it is.
For my Oompa Loompa costume, I went to Hobby Lobby and got regular white fabric for my pants and ribbon for the crossed suspenders. After I sewed that, I got a brown turtleneck from the dollar store and sewed the extra white fabric around the neck and colored brown stripes on it. I also bought long white socks and colored brown stripes on that. For the flip flops all I did was glue a little fuzzy ball on the top from Hobby Lobby as well.
For the Willy Wonka costume, my boyfriend found the blazer at Goodwill and a regular purple button-down from Wal-Mart. I bought the lace for his shirt at Hobby Lobby and sewed that next to the buttons. The bow is also ribbon from Hobby Lobby.
We won first place for the Homemade Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompa Couple Costume contest at the party we went to! Hope you all enjoy!
My 4 year old son got to choose what he wanted to be for Halloween this year. He chose an Homemade Oompa Loompa Halloween Costume! Unfortunately it's a costume that has to be homemade.
I had to dye a white turtleneck brown and paint the stripes on. My grandma was kind enough to sew the pants together. It's impossible to find white sweatpants also. The suspenders were just left over pieces of felt. Instead of buttons I just cut out pieces of brown felt. The tights had a couple different prototypes before the final pair. I ended up buying brown tights and making the stripes with white duct tape. Worked great!
After wearing it twice I'll have to redo the tape but that's simple. The shoes are just a pair of ballet slippers with some yarn pom-poms attached. I do highly recommend a setting spray before you apply the makeup. It really helped me from getting orange all over my place and car. Came off easy too. Overall I think this year was a success!

Willy Wonka - We bought the pattern and sewed the jacket and vest. Used purple cotton fabric instead of velvet. Found shiny patterned fabric for the vest. Used Christmas ribbon with wired edges for the bowtie and used elastic to tie it on. Bought a plain white felt top hat and spray painted it brown. Bought the cane at the store.
Oompa Loompa - Found the brown turtle neck and tights at the store and used white fabric paint to make the stripes. Used brown and white yarn for the "pom-poms" on the shoes. Tied those to brown shoes. Hand sewed the pants using a free-hand pattern. Used white flannel and interfacing for the pants. Sewed the buttons to the pants and safety pinned the suspenders for adjustment. Bought the wig and styled it with bobby pins and styling solution and then spray painted it green. Used orange and white face paint.
And that was it, a Homemade Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompa Costume.
