Coolest Oompa Loompa Costume

A friend at work has been calling me Oompa Loompa for the part year. I decided to try an Oompa Loompa Costume for Halloween this year after my daughter was watching "Charlie and the Chocolate factory" on TV.

The pants were the hardest part. I found a pair of white pants at a local store that were much to big. My grandmother helped shorten them to right above my calves. We taped triangle Styrofoam pieces to my legs and then pulled the pants over the Styrofoam. We sewed black buttons and white ribbon to the pants for the top. The shirt was a brown turtleneck I already had in my closet.

The white stripes were made with paper tape. Along with the white stripes on the socks. The hair is my own with some green hair spray and the ends of my hair curled up, I made my face orange with some dark colored blush and the white is Halloween makeup. Then I just added some white gloves of my daughter's. My height was a great help at only being 4'10 1/2.

Dressing up as an Oompa Loompa was a blast. At work and at a local Halloween party lots of heads turned and was surprised that is was me. I was asked several times how I did it. Had a lot of fun, Never made a costume before but it might be a new tradition.

This is Violet Beauregarde (the blueberry girl from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory). It’s one of my favorite costumes I’ve ever worn and one of the easiest to do!

The dress was a lucky thrift store find. I’m not much of a seamstress, so I decided to check around for a suitable dress. On my first trip out I found this (rather ugly) blue dress. In the film, Violet is actually wearing a pantsuit but I couldn’t afford to be picky and I wasn’t really sure how to make pants work with the inflatable part (up next). I altered the sleeves because originally they gathered tightly at the wrists and I didn’t care for that. I also purchased some buttons for the front of the dress to more closely match Movie Violet’s outfit. She is also wearing a red belt, which pops off as she begins to inflate. I just bought some red ribbon to tie around my waist so that it could be removed easily for inflation.

For the inflatable part, I purchased an inflatable basketball costume. I just wore the dress over the basketball, pressed the button, and voila. I also purchased blue tights and colored my skin blue with a heavy dusting of blue eye shadow!

Hope you like my Coolest Violet Beauregarde Costume.

Thanks for commenting :) if you Google "inflatable costume" and click on the shopping results, you will see many different options for costumes that would be perfect for this. You just need something that blows up nice and round. For example, there are inflatable m&m's, sumo wrestlers, etc.

Why did you forget one of the key ingredients to the Violet costume?
(The Nails)

I'm not sure what you mean by the nails. I guess I don't remember that part?

by: Anonymous

What I meant was that you should have had blue nails to really help the costume work. BTW, do you do videos?

Fab Idea!
