When I was invited to a 1970s party, I knew I wanted something different but couldn't find well made Oompa Loompa outfits online or in the party hire shops. So I made my own Homemade Oompa Loompa Girl Costume!

I made the skirt and suspenders out of a long white skirt, cut short, and two belts from some 3/4 length pants, and some green buttons. I made the top from an old ugly skivvy, which I hand sewed white ribbon onto the cuffs and collar.

I found the wig for $10 at a bargain shop, and curled it myself and the gloves were $1! I put ribbons on my shoes, and bought brown stockings and $3 white glasses like the ones the Oompa Loompas wear in the TV scene!!

BUT the part that got the most attention was my last minute decision to make a bag, the night before the party! I bought felt in brown, red, yellow and white, printed out a tiny photo of a Wonka Bar, then copied it onto felt, and made a bag by machine sewing two bits of brown felt together! I put on my left over white ribbon and two more green buttons and waa laaaa! I had my own Wonka Bar bag! I printed Golden Tickets, took a giant lollipop and away I went.

Everyone loved it and kept asking where I got my outfit, and were stunned when I said I made it. I also won Best Dressed, and got a movie voucher! WOO! The birthday girl was born in the year Willy Wonka first came out, so she was really happy to see an Oompa Loompa at her party!!!

Hope you enjoy the pics.

For Purim I wanted to be original. I find store bought costumes to be cheap looking so decided to do it myself. We decided to do the 1971 Gene Wilder version as Willy Wonka. For my husband's costume we found his pieces via thrift shops. His vest was an old lady dress cut up and sewn together. For his cane we bought a tube in a pet shop and filled it with colorful sprinkles, and glued a glass door knob on top.

For my Oompa Loompa costumes I purchased white material, made a pattern and sewed them together. I used thick elastic as the straps and sewed buttons on. For the turtle necks and sleeves I used the cut up tights. I purchased the wigs and make up. Pom poms are easy to make just Google how to make pom poms.

We had a blast turning heads in our Homemade Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompa Family Costumes!

Here I am in an Oompa Loompa Costume from Charlie and the chocolate factory. White short dungarees which I got from a car boot sale for around £6.00, black and brown tights from eBay, a brown jumper, green wig and I had green shoes with pom poms on.)

Really enjoyed this costume as I LOVE sweeties ha ha. The wig I bought online with the gloves which were pretty cheap. I also added cut outs of a woka bar, a real lolly and a golden ticket. And a flower made from smarties for my wig. The shoes I got from a local store and the pom poms I glued on with a glue gun. They were from a haberdashery.

Fantastic night, oen of my favorite costumes I have worn so far!

Coolest Oompa Loompa Homemade Twin Costumes 52

Oompa Loompa Homemade Twin Costumes

I made these Oompa Loompa Homemade Twin Costumes for World Book Day for my 8 year old twins.

I stitched the dungarees myself, which is pretty impressive for me as I’m no seamstress. Fabric was only £4. Bought the polo necks on sale in Zara for only £2.99, painted stripes using fabric paint on old white socks and left over fabric for the cuffs and collars. The wigs were on sale at £1.25 each, but they were long, so cut them down and used my curling tongs. The shoe covers were made using felt, elastic and polystyrene balls painted with swirls.

Bit of face paint and job done! And a bargain!
