Homemade War and Peace Concept Costume

This Homemade War and Peace Concept Costume was a very fun concept couple costume. It was all about the make-up really. HUGE impact, the all blue and all red.

War is wearing a leather “kilt”. We bought red and black pleather and cut it gladiator style and bought a sword at a Halloween shop. Sprayed his hair black and then it was time to cover the man in red. The trick to good coverage with Halloween makeup is mixing it with real base make up. It doesn’t change the color really and it goes on much smoother and more evenly, then we used some black around the eyes. Finally add an aggressive attitude and you are ready for War! Bring it!

Peace is wearing a blue floaty off the shoulder toga made with light blue transparent fabric and backed with a poly nylon lining -very important! My hair color clashed with the blue so I dyed it for the occasion, I don’t expect everyone to go to such extremes, and then added the gold ivy wreath I bought in the floral department of a craft store and also bought a silk olive branch and dove from same store and attached the dove to it. The technique for the blue make-up is the same as the red. I did use a darker shade for lips, brows and as eyeliner. Then get your serenity on and balance that angry guy out!

Wow!

My husband and I are trying this for our Halloween party next week. You all look awesome and it also seems to be pretty cheap so far. Did you all have any problems once the paint dried? As far as war rubbing off on peace...color that is? Thanks for the idea!

Chuck and I sat on wooden chairs and left the couch and comfy chairs to our guests! As for us mixing? Well the shower became a muddy purple!

Homemade "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" Costume

by Sherry

A bird in the hand, is worth two in the BUSH!

A bird in the hand, is worth two in the BUSH!
Look at that pretty bird! It really is worth two in the bush.
More fun with

Where our idea came from - My friend and I almost peed our pants the first time we saw the Geico commercial where the man is explaining to the woman that her “bird in the hand” is in such great shape, that if it went to auction, he thinks that it would definitely be worth “two in the bush”. Too funny! When we were trying to come up with a great homemade Halloween costume, we both just started laughing hysterically and were both thinking of the same idea.

How we put it together - We bought the three birds and the foliage from a craft store. We wired the two smaller birds to the foliage and attached it to the front of my pants. My friend held the larger bird in her hand. We affixed stickers on our shirts to look like equal signs, indicating that a bird in the hand is equal to/worth two in the bush.

Extra Tip - If you are going to attend a Halloween party that will be in the dark, you can do what we did and place two small glow bracelets around the two small birds in the bush. It illuminates them perfectly!

My husband and I like to stir up conversation. So, this year I went as Tea Party Candiate Christine O'Donnell and he went as "Fox" News.

I dressed up as Christine, who once "dabbled" in witchcraft by painting my face like a witch, with a witches hat and wore "campaign buttons". My husband created a TV screen with plexiglass and cardboard with a "faux" headline and a hypnotizing screen.

We got lots of laughs AND dirty looks for our Homemade Christine O'Donnell and Fox News Couple Costume Idea!

Bubble Bath Costume 5

Bubble Bath Costume

Bubble Bath Costume

For my bubble bath costume I spent maybe $8 on the tub and some balloons, a scrub brush and a shower cap. I got everything from the dollar store. I hot glued my kids' toys and the washrag, cotton balls, little soaps and shampoos I had at home.

Total Spent: $5
