Homemade Pineapple Costume

This Homemade Pineapple Costume is a costume from last year, so I don't have photos of the creation process. No need to include this in any contest, if those things prevent it from qualifying - just saw there was only 1 pineapple costume on the site, quite different from mine, so I wanted to share.)

This pineapple costume was pieced together from a hand crafted no-sew tutu and various store bought items. The feather headband was purchased, but could easily be made with feathers from a craft store. Sunglasses could be replaced with costume make-up, if you prefer not to buy any. Necklace was fashioned from a tag swiped off a real pineapple; I just punched a small hole in it and attached gold cord so it would fit my neck. For the main portion of the costume, I used a gold sequin tube dress I already had and layered a top and tutu skirt over it. Green part is a belly dancing top found on ebay, and the tutu skirt was created using tutorials found on youtube (search for no sew tutu and you will find many). I added gold boots I already had, but you could also go for gold tights/leggings, or use shiny gold fabric to make your own boot covers. Costume was comfortable, but did leave glitter on everything, thanks to the glitter tulle used for the tutu. I like sprinkling a little magic around, so I wouldn't change this, but if you want to avoid glitter litter, best to go with non-glitter tulle.

Costume was a huge hit!

Coolest Homemade Bunch of Grapes Halloween Costume 14

Homemade Bunch of Grapes Halloween Costume

Homemade Bunch of Grapes Halloween Costume

This homemade bunch of grapes Halloween costume is the easiest and the cheapest costume I have ever made! The best part is it only took about half an hour to put it all together.

The shopping list is one purple long sleeve shirt, 50 purple balloons, one pack of safety pins, 2 sheets of green felt, one hair beret and a paper towel roll.

First I started with the challenging part, coming up with enough hot air to blow up the balloons; I found it was easier to have my daughter put the shirt on to attach the balloons, I ran the safety pin through the bottom half of the tied part of the balloon then attached them to her shirt starting at the top. After attaching about 10 balloons at a time I would stop and look for bare spots to fill in.

Once this was completed it was time to make the stem. I cut two large leaves out of green felt and hot glued them to a hair beret. Then I took the paper towel roll and cut it about 3 inches long at an angel and used markers to decorate it. Once decorated I hot glued it to the felt leaves and VIOLA one perfect Halloween costume!

I'm going to try to be grapes this Halloween and I'm wondering, did you use regular (12") size balloons like would come in a bunch of helium filled balloons? Thanks!

Coolest Grapes DIY Halloween Costume Idea 13

Grapes DIY Halloween Costume Idea

My three year old is still at that fun age where I can convince her to be anything, which is great cause I know I won't be able to in a few years. I started this grapes DIY Halloween costume idea by looking for purple pants and a long sleeved shirt. I also found some purple knit gloves. I wanted shoe covers too, so I bought two pieces of purple felt - I got her shoes and pinned them to the sole and started cutting out the hole where her foot goes. I then trimmed them and sewed the two sides. I hand sewed some elastic on the heal and toe of the shoe to make them stay on.

I bought two bags of purple balloons. I didn't blow them up very much and then safety pinned them only to the shirt, to make bathroom breaks and getting it off to play games easy. We also made her head a grape by painting her face purple and used purple hairspray in her hair. The finishing touch was a headband that I hot-glued green felt leaves and a sewed and stuffed a brown felt stem on. It was very fun, and she loved it!
