Pretty Handmade Poison Ivy Costume

I hand made this Homemade Poison Ivy Costume and it took me about a month to do it. I first started with an old green leotard I had and sewed on hundreds of fake leaves I had ripped off of fake flowers and plants. This process took the longest by far. I purchased the green tights and gloves from the We Love Colors website so they would both match and I wouldn’t have to worry about dyeing them myself. I glued smaller fake leaves to the tops of the gloves to pull it all together.

My hair was my second big challenge. I took two pieces of flower arrangement foam and shaved them down to two cones. I used real hair that I had left over from making my extensions to wrap around the cones. I hot glued the tracks to the base then sprayed and flat ironed the hair around the cones till they were stiff. This took about a whole can of hair spray but so worth it. I then glued barrettes to the bottom of the cones to clip into my hair and wrapped my own hair around the base. Topped it off with a little more red hair spray and the hair was done. My make up was green craft glitter on my eye lids with eye lash glue to keep it in place then I used spirit gum to glue on the leaves over my eyebrows and around my eyes.

Over all the costume was a huge success and I received so many compliments and still do. My best hand made costume so far and I am very proud of it.

  1. Hey I was wondering where you got the tights from!? They look perfect and I am having trouble finding the right green color

  2. The leaves over your eyebrows look great! Well, the whole costume is great, actually, but I am interested in how you did the eyebrows. Did you use actual artificial leaves and attach with spirit gum?

  6. The tights were from http://www.welovecolors.com. They are the nylon/lycra solid color tights in olive green. The gloves came from the same site and are the same color.

Yes all the leaves I used on the costume and my face were artificial leaves pulled off of plants and I attached the ones on my face with spirit gum.

The leotard was an old green dance costume I had from when I was 10. I don’t know the size, I just knew I didn’t care about ruining it. Any site you buy leotards from will give you proper sizing instructions.

    Thanks for your comments!
