Coolest Homemade Sesame Street Group Halloween Costume Ideas

We work at a doctor’s office and every year we all dress up for Halloween and throw a party for the patients. We like to choose a theme, something entertaining for all ages, and we strive to blow away the previous year’s costumes.

This year we decided that treating patients all dressed up as giant adult muppets would be extremely entertaining, not to mention absolutely ridiculous, so we decided on Sesame Street characters. After trying on some cheesy costumes at stores, our only option was to create, and ultimately BECOME Sesame Street muppets!

After many hours, numerous hot glue gun burns, and countless trips to Michaels and JoAnns, Bert, Ernie, Zoe, and Elmo came to life. We even altered the store bought Big Bird costume with the addition of fabulous yellow feather boas to make it our own.

Needless to say, our patients were blown away, our necks were a little sore by the end of the day, but at the end of the day we had an awesome time and all of the hard work definitely paid off! Brainstorming has already begun on how to top these costumes next year.

  1. I used paper mache to make the characted heads. I couldn’t find anything that was the perfect shape for any of them so I molded a wire hanger into the desired shape and size, then i wrapped it with gauze and filled it with stuffing so that i had a giant 3-d oval. After covering them with paper mache I cut a straight opening in the bottom of the heads and holes in the mouths for a face window. They didn’t come to life until they were covered with fabric and decorated with the eyes, ears, noses, and hair.
