Homemade Batman Dark Knight Costume

I made this Homemade Batman Dark Knight Costume for an office Halloween costume competition. I did it in about 4-5 days, out of things that were already lying around the house. It's basically made out of colored rubber puzzle mats, a yoga mat, biking elbow and knee paddings, biking gloves, cardboard, 2 rolls of black duct tape and plastic shopping bag (for the cowl), tons of hot melt glue, spray paint (2 cans flat black, 1 gold and 1 silver), discarded bag straps, some Velcro straps, old rubber boots (the one you use when wading in flood waters, cut them up and duct taped together so it became a better fit), and an assortment of black clothing (biking jersey, arm warmers and leggings.

The only thing I had a friend sew was the cape. Pictures from the internet were very useful, specially for the cool toy line from DC direct and hot toys. It was a first attempt at costume making and will probably not be the last, it was fun making it but doubly fun seeing the expression of the people who saw it and could not believe it was done in less than a weeks time.

My little guys love Batman and Robin so naturally that is what they wanted to be for Halloween this year. I wanted to go retro with the TV series style of Batman and Robin, however, we have rather cold weather for trick or treating up here in the great northwest so I opted to use a lot of polar fleece rather than spandex in the costume design plus for little ones the fleece is comfy!

So to make their Batman and Robin Couple Costumes, I found a silver dance unitard on eBay that I used for the main body of the Batman costume, satin for both the capes, fleece for the boot covers, shorts and Robin's top. Felt was used for the emblems. I also found a long sleeved green t shirt for and black toddler gloves at Target.( I did not want to mess with making the gauntlets because chances are they will have to wear coats anyway). I also made the bets myself and reflective buckles I found at the fabric store.

Needless to say we are looking forward to Oct.31st!!!nanananananananananaananaa BATMAN!

Homemade Batman Costume

I made this homemade Batman costume suit for a party I went to. I've got another photo somewhere with me and mr.T, I'll see if I can find it. For now I'll upload the photo that was taken in front of the club.

The suit kinda lacks a proper belt, but keep in mind that this is a last minute and low (very low) budget costume. It's a bit of a bummer that the boots aren't in the photo, since I painted my boots black just for that night. And this is the only photo I've got so far (although I'm 100% sure there are more photo's taken...)

Overall a nice costume. Not ComicCon worthy, but nice.

This is one of the best Batman costumes I have ever seen. How did you make it, especially the mask because that is probably the best batman mask I've ever seen.
Thanks and that is Comic-Con worthy i think.

Thanks! As for the mask, that was pretty much just buying a mask and than cutting some and pasting some. I aimed for the Jim Apero dimensions. Since I wasn't going to be as buffed as the Jim Lee batman anyway :P
The paint I used for the mask is the same as the one I used for the logo on my shirt, but it looks different because of the different materials.
The belt sucks, but I'm making a belt right now that looks very much like the one in the comics.

And if I'm ever to wear a batsuit on a con (I do hope so, but I don't live anywhere near those things) I think I will go for the movie look (Returns cowl and emblem, '89 muscles, costume belt, etc.)
