This Alien Baby Abductor costume is super easy to make and really has an awesome optical illusion effect. We used an alien mask (full head type), a black grim reaper gown, baby onsie pj’s, baby bonnet, backpack, foam ball, gloves and PVC pipe — that’s it. The costume actually took a few hours to put together.
For the alien body, we put cut a hole in the chest of the grim reaper gown for the “baby’s” head to pop through. We stuffed the baby onsie with batting stuffing. I cut the hands off a baby doll from the 99 cent store and hot clued the onsie hand holes around the baby hands.
For the frame of the alien, you need to construct a t-shaped frame out of PVC pipe. The top of the “T” will hold the head, and the cross part of the “t” will provide the shoulder’s of the alien. The frame should stick out about a foot higher than the top of the back pack. Poke the top of the PVC pipe into a foam ball.
Put on the backpack and secure it at tight as to your back as possible. Place the PVC pipe into the back pack and stuff the backpack with newspapers or secure it to the inside of the backpack to keep the pipe from being too loose. Place the gown over the top of the t-shaped PVC pipe. Poke the top of the PVC pipe into the foam ball, and place the alien mask over the foam ball. Cut a hole in the chest of the gown for the baby’s head to pop out. Then sew or attach the baby’s body with safety pins. (I used safety pins) Attach the baby’s body under the human “baby” head sticking out from the chest of the alien. We used a pair of Frankenstein hands/gloves from another costume to hide the “human” hands.
My bonnet was too small, so I just used the rim of the bonnet on the baby’s head. Little extras (pacifier, cigar, real beard stubble, crying and scared expressions) really add to the costume!!!
