I dressed up as Mrs. Scissorhands this year and my husband was Edward Scissorhands. I found a pleathery dress at Forever 21 with gold grommets on the upper back which worked perfectly. I got some gold colored steel rings from Hobby Lobby and used black electrical tape to attach them sporadically on the dress like Edward Scissorhands’ outfit in the movie. I had a black belt with silver studs and grommets which was the main belt wrapped loosely around my waist. I used one other shiny black belt my dad let me borrow with a shiny gold buckle. I taped more of the gold rings (I got one package of 1 inch rings and one package of 3 inch rings) with electrical tape on the dress for finishing touches.

I wore black panty hose and used a pen to make rips in them. I did my own makeup after watching Kandee Johnson’s Edward Scissorhands Makeup Tutorial on youtube as a guide. Since my husband was Edward Scissorhands with the full makeup job, I wanted to be his hot wife so I used the tips from the video including concealing my eyebrows with the glue stick trick, but I decided to use my own regular foundation so that my face matched the rest of my body. I teased my hair a lot, wore black arm warmers, and bought the Edward Scissorhands gloves from Johnnie Brocks.

This Homemade Mrs. Scissorhands Costume turned out great, we got compliments all night, AND we won first place in the costume contest!

For this Coolest Edward Scissorhands Costume I got fake leather material from the fabric store along with a shirt pattern and a leggings pattern and sewed a plain pleather shirt and pants. I attached the shiny collar and sleeves from a rain jacket I got from the thrift store, I just cut them off and attached them to the homemade shirt.

I also got belts from the thrift store and sewed them to the shirt and pants. Some of the belts I made myself with the fake leather, metal studs from the craft store, and metal rings from the hardware store. For the hands I got leather gloves and made the blades from foam board - I cut to look like scissor blades and handles and painted with craft paint.

For the hair - my daughter has long hair so we had to wind it up and leave the ends out to tease and hide the rest of her hair and sprayed black. Then we just did her makeup to look like Edward Scissorhands, and used liquid latex to make scars.

My husband dressed up as Edward Scissorhands this year and I was Mrs. Scissorhands. For him, we got dark gray dress pants that were a little big on him from Goodwill and black suspenders from Hot Topic. He had a white business shirt and black t-shirt to wear underneath. We used an extra black t-shirt and cut it up to put around his neck to make it look like a black turtleneck. We used black electrical tape to attach gold colored steel rings from Hobby Lobby to make it look like his leathery suit underneath.

I did his makeup after watching Kandee Johnson’s Edward Scissorhands Makeup Tutorial on youtube. I got cheaper versions of the stuff she recommended on the video so that the colors were a close match. I used eyelash glue to create the scars on his face afterwards. We got the gloves and wig from Johnnie Brocks. People kept saying he looked exactly like him all night. Oh, and we won first place in the costume contest, too.

I made this Homemade Female Edward Scissorhands Costume myself. For the vest I bought a bunch of old belts from the thrift store which I cut up and glued on overlapping. For the hands, I purchased Freddy Kreuger claws from the dollar store, which I deconstructed, and glued onto some black gloves. For the scissor handles, I bought safety scissors, broke the handles off, spray painted them black and glued them onto the claws. I made a choker by attaching safety pins to a black piece of fabric. I made a small belt in the same way.

On the bottom I wore black shiny leggings, with pieces of leftover belt safety pinned on in places, and high black buckled leather boots. I teased my hair, pinning it up in a messy way with one side hanging down, and applied black lipgloss to the center of my lips.
