My daughter, Koral, wanted to be a life-sized Barbie doll this year. Together we homemade this Fairytopia Barbie Doll costume.
I used a wardrobe box and cut one side to resemble a real Barbie box. I then painted the outside watermelon pink and the inside, white. Next, I sprayed glitter over the paint, printed out the Mattel logo and put it at the top of the box. The Barbie logo, written in the Barbie font, was placed at an angle on the front of the box while the printed choking hazard sign was on the side. A picture of the Fairytopia Barbie Elina was also stuck on the box, identifying the doll inside. All of these logos mentioned above were placed identically to those appearing on the actual Barbie boxes.
I bought fairy wings and a wand and attached them, with cable ties, onto separate pieces of cardboard. These, in turn, were glued to the inside of the box to look like the real Barbie accessories.
I made my daughter a tutu with colorful tulle tied on to a piece of elastic. I bought house slippers onto which I sewed long pieces of ribbon; these she tied up her legs to resemble ballet shoes. I also cut off the back part, including straps, of a backpack and glued it to the back of the box's inside, so she could wear it around trick or treating.
She also wore a blond wig with a small crown, and a little bit of makeup. She was such a hit and looked so authentic as she walked around.

My roommates and I wanted a super cool costume. Halloween is HUGE affair here in our city, St Johns, NL, Canada. We have a street that is closed off Halloween weekend (George st) and it is lined with bars. Everyone roams the street looking at everyone's costumes. We wanted to go over the top and made these Barbie in a Box Costumes!
We bought boxes from U haul and painted them pink, painted on the barbie logo, and our type or barbie (or ken). We lined the box with material, put a light in the top (on the inside) and even had the cellophane wrapper over it. We put harness around our waists to keep the box up. We even had the Matel symbol on the back (can't see that in pic). We had people asking us all night "can we get in your box?" haha.
It was def the best costume EVER!

This homemade Barbie in a box costume was a major hit at my costume party!!!
I found two large square boxes, taped them together, cut out a hole in the front for where my body was, covered it in wrapping paper, and printed out the "Barbie" logo and pasted it on.
The biggest trick is how to wear the costume. I attached make-shift backpack straps to the costume so I basically wore the whole box as a backpack! Then just dress up as a barbie and you're good to go! It'll definitely be a winner...
