Bug Family Costume
Our family went as bugs. Praying Mantis, Ladybug, Butterfly, Bumble Bee & Firefly. All of the bug costumes ( except for the wings) were homemade.
I was the firefly. You can't see the back of the costume but I used a white balloon with glow sticks inside for my bum light. Then just used sticky Velcro to attach it. It looked great at night.
My daughter is the one in the wheelchair. Her nickname is Doodlebug so of course she had to be the ladybug. I just made a balloon style dress with elastic in the hem and added felt dots. We stuffed our costumes with grocery bags so it was light weight.
My nephew is the praying mantis. The head was constructed out of foam and polar fleece. The eyes are Styrofoam balls covered with fleece and painted black dots.
We added the large sun glasses (partycity) because we thought that gave just the added touch. My niece is the beautiful butterfly. She made a gorgeous black dress that could be worn other times (thinking ahead) and made her antennas out of Styrofoam balls with spray glue and glitter.
