Each year a group of eight of us have to come up with a unique costume idea for an event we have called the "Beaver Convention". I won't get into the convention itself, but the idea we chose this time was "Beaver Herders", a male celebrity escort service. We had the likes of Hugh Hefner, Gene Simmons, Austin Powers, Fabio, Ty Pennington (Extreme Home Makeover), Donald Trump, Fonzie and Ron Jeremy. It was hilarious considering we're all women...
Anyway, I was Gene Simmons, so I took a cream body suit and attached chest hair. Took chain and attached it over my hairy chest. I bought black spandex and tall boots. I cut out white teeth from bristol board at attached it to the toes of the boots, and used my children's safety knee & elbow pads, and covered them with cooler bag foil.
I had a black wig that I cut to suit, and put a ponytail above my head. The rest was my fabulous make up job, done freehand, looking at a picture of him. I borrowed my son's toy guitar, and sucked on a ton of red candies to turn my tongue red...
My son won first place with best costume from the entire pack at our cub scout pack night. His picture was also featured on genesimmons.com in the 'your letters' section and on our pack website.
Ever since I met Gene Simmons my son has been in awe with him. He wants to be a rock-star when he grows up. We figured him being Gene might be a good start.
The make-up I ordered online from the KISS warehouse. The wig, I also ordered and trimmed it to work for my son. The axe guitar was trimmed out of thin wood. Then I painted it to match Gene's.
For the chest my son has an ATV so we just used his chest protector covered in aluminum foil. For the shins I used shin guards and cut paper plates to look like scales then hot glued them to the shin guards and spray painted them. I used an old pair of sneakers and spray painted them to look like the dragon. I got a spiked collar from the Halloween store as well. He wore all black and was quite a hit everywhere we went.
