My place of employment is big into Halloween and the celebration is one to be envied. This year, being 42 years old and experiencing the not so great side of aging, I decided to be “Middle Aged Barbie”. I came complete with graying hair, hot flashes, mood swings, liver spot stickers, full support bra, spare tire, fanny pack, plus others (see my box) but my bonus feature was: Make Middle Aged Barbie laugh, cough or sneeze and she’ll pee her pants (panty liners included). I won the costume contest at work, not to mention tons of laughter as I walked around strutting my stuff.
The Middle Aged Barbie Halloween Costume is 100% homemade, funny thing was we brought the box to my workplace before anyone arrived, hid it, and because of the way I was dressed, co-workers assumed I didn’t dress up, and then when it was time for the parade and costume judging and I came shuffling up in my box, the explosion of laughter was enormous.
My husband and I went to our local appliance dealer for cardboard boxes, measured, cut, and put together the box. Primed it, painted it, cut it, put it together, and individually glued every one of the letters and decorations on to the box. There are handles inside the box at my hand level so that I could actually lift and walk with the box.
It took us an entire weekend but was so worth it for the numerous compliments I got on it. It was a lot of fun!
