As usual my daughter’s school gave just 2 days notice that they were holding a world book day (UK) fancy dress contest.

As were not one for shop bought costumes it had to be something simple, quick and easy to get bits and bobs for. Then, just to make it that little bit more complicated I asked my daughter’s best friend would she like to go as Thing 2. Not easy when they are both the same age, but one’s short and one’s tall. One’s in age 7-8 clothes and the other age 11-12 So trying to get the same clothes in different sizes proved quite difficult.

Basically I just went and bought:

2 blue Afro wigs from a fancy dress shop £6.99 (Smiffys)

2 red sports T-shirts £7.00 for the two (John Lewis)

2 pairs of red leggings £2.50 (Primark)

I then found Thing 1 and Thing 2 logos on Google, printed them off, put an extra piece of white paper behind while cutting them out, then using the hot glue gun glued the two pieces of paper on top of each other. Then glued the logo onto the T-shirt, as simple as that.

Make up was basically lots of bronzer, brown eyeliner on nose and for freckles going across cheeks and nose and blue eye shadow on eyebrows.

Easiest, cheapest and quickest homemade costume I’ve made and looked fab if I do say so myself. Took all of 5 mins to glue logo on and about 2 mins to do make-up, and cost £12.99 per costume.
