Cutest Scarecrow Costume Ever for a Toddler

My husband and I went back and forth one night trying to decide on a Halloween costume for our two year old daughter. We wanted to make as much of it ourselves as we could. What did we come up with? The cutest scarecrow ever!

Our daughter loves dressing up in her tutus, which gave us the idea of a “fancy” scarecrow costume. We purchased tulle in five different autumn shades which we cut into 1.5 inch wide strips. To construct the floor length tutu, we tied each piece of tulle to an elastic band. When the skirt was complete, we added some raffia to give it a straw appearance. On the back of the skirt, we simply wrapped a brown ribbon around the exposed elastic band (enough to camouflage it) and tied it in a pretty bow. We used the same ribbon to tie the big sunflower to the front of the skirt, which we felt completed the tutu!

Our daughter received the hat as a gift, just not all dolled up! We sewed the button on the front with some thin red ribbon and tied in the berry embellishments. It was adorable! The brown sweater was another item we had in her closet. It was perfect with the rough edges on the sleeves. To make the stuffed appearance of a scarecrow, we used a shirt that was a little larger on our daughter.  We used the same raffia from the skirt and tied a little around each wrist. Since the weather is typically cold in our area on Halloween, bundling up is a good idea!

Needless to say, the compliments were ongoing! As she walked down the street, people were stopping to say how adorable she looked. Many even said it was the best costume they saw all year!

We absolutely loved constructing our daughters cutest scarecrow ever costume. We already started ideas for next year!
