Tortoise Costume

My daughter had the role of the Tortoise in her first grade play of the Tortoise and the Hare. I decided to make her costume. I cut out two oval shapes out of cardboard. I covered one with green fabric using spray fabric glue. I then pieced pillow stuffing over the other oval piece of cardboard and then covered it with more of the same green fabric which I spray glued into place.

Shell markings were drawn on with a black permanent marker. I hot glued ribbons to both pieces for the shoulder straps and then one on each side that would be tied to make it easy to get on and off and so that it would shift when moving around. Green face paints, a green t-shirt and green spray paint finished off the costume.

My daughter was an amazing tortoise and everyone loved her costume. It was very easy (no sewing involved) and very inexpensive to make.

Total Spent: $10
