My daughter wanted to be a ballerina for Halloween but not just any ballerina, she wanted to be one of those ballerina’s in the jewelry boxes.
We used a platform push cart for her Jewelry Box Ballerina Costume that we use for a lot of our girls costumes. It helps keep them contained when out trick or treating. We started with an old trunk we had in the basement and painted it white with pink trim. I covered the inside with white cotton fabric.
We used a small mirror for the lid and Styrofoam balls to build an oversized pair of earrings and a pearl necklace. I used ballerina material to make the skirt around the platform. My daughter used her pink dance leotard and I bought an inexpensive tutu. She had a crown she had won to wear in her hair.
My husband connected speakers under the platform and a tape player inside the trunk. The music that played was music box dancer. The whole thing cost us less then $50. She made quite the impression everywhere we went.

This is my daughter Belle. She is 4 years old. She loves to dance and loves jewelry so what a great combination
Materials: Cardboard boxes, felt, plastic jewelry, knobs, elastic, silver cake board, glue gun 1 cute little dancer with big cheesy smile.
Cut out box and add tall piece for the back. Cover your box with felt. Place silver cake board on the back tall piece for the mirrors, Add in Elastic straps. Cut out felt daisy's or any other flower you want to use. Decorate with felt daisies. I had them all on the back and sides of the jewelry box also.
Put smaller felt covered boxes on the front for drawers with glue. Add wood knobs or any other type of knobs you may have around. Glue on plastic jewelry. I found the best source for this was my local Dollar store. The glue gun and glue is your best friend on this costume.
Wear your favorite dance outfit and tights. You can change the color of felt to match your outfit.
This costume was so easy to make. I love crafts and this one fit right up my alley! After plugging in my trusty hot glue gun, I cut a hole out of the bottom of a copier paper box. Then I wrapped the box in light pink bulletin board paper. The drawers I made from the cardboard boxes the paper came in. I attached the lid to the back with a mix of hot glue and packing tape. I added the feather boa around the edge and an aluminum foil mirror with a ribbon frame.
The drawers had sticker jewelry added (to make it more realistic) with flowers for handles and heart stickers were added all over the box. We added ribbon suspenders (to keep it up). She wore a body suit and tights underneath with a dollar store crown on her head!
I LOVE this costume! Unfortunately, it did not make it through the rainy night! But we have our pictures to remember it by!
This is a Homemade Ballerina in a Jewelry Box Costume that I had made. My daughter loves jewelry boxes and of course loves dressing up as a pretty ballerina so this costume was a perfect fit for her! I made it from a moving box that my sister gave me and an old pink fleece blanket I had. It took lots of hot glue and duck tape (2 of my best friends).
With lots of dedication, hard work and creativity came this beautiful costume. The total costume cost me a whopping $1.50 to make! Beat that you store bought costumes! My daughter could either walk around with it with the straps on or stand it in so it was multi-purpose. It even played the ballerina song just like a real jewelry box does.
I put finishing touches of gold jewels to look like jewelry coming out of the drawers. She was such a cute little ballerina in a big jewelry box!
