Coolest Oompa Loompa Homemade Costume

This is my Oompa Loompa costume. It was made entirely by me in 1 day. The pants are a textured white material heavy enough to poof out on their own at the knees. I made it adjustable so that others could wear it in future years, even if they are larger than I. The waist band has elastic strips that allow you to adjust it as do the bottom of the legs.

The turtle neck is hand painted with puffy paint on the wrists and turtle neck. I bought the gloves and wig, though. My face makeup is orange and that is toothpaste on my eyebrows. The shoe puffs are just made with yarn doughnuts that I wound, cut and poofed.

The challenge to this costume was that I am self taught and lazy – but innovative. So, I didn’t use a pattern that I modified, I used pins and pinned it to my body, wiggled out, sewed a little, then adjusted the pants several times to fit correctly. The socks were challenging as well. How do you paint vertical stripes on socks without wearing them, since they need to dry for 24 hours?

I took several cans of food and taped them together, then put the socks over them and drew on my stripes. They are so hard though that they practically stand on their own when not in use.

  1. For your question how do you paint the socks without wearing them for 24 hours? You don’t. You can get some brown socks and put white athletic tape over them. If you ever needed to use the socks again all you have to do is take the tape off. I myself might be going as an Oompa Loompa this year. I hope I will get to.
