Coolest Homemade Fish Halloween Costumes

This was one of my better homemade box costumes. I am always trying to think of what can be made from a box. I have fans every year that can’t wait to see what I come up with! Everyone at work knows me for looking for that “right” box from our warehouse. When September comes around and they see me coming they ask “are you looking for your box?”

The fish Halloween costumes was inspired by a co-worker’s hat which is the fish on my head. She saw it and thought it was a toaster cover but when she tried it she found it wouldn’t fit and figured out it was a hat. She had no use for it so I asked if I could borrow it. I built the whole idea around that hat.

I got two boxes (one for the table the other for the aquarium). It took me a bit of thinking to figure out how to make the frame of the aquarium without it collapsing. I covered it with black electrical tape. Cut a hole for your head in the middle of the bottom box. Cover with a table cloth, cut an X where the hole is so you can put your head through. Make your aquarium frame and tape to table.

Aquarium: cellophane type wrapping paper for background treasure chest, those squishy balls with the pointy ends (different sizes and colors) for corrals, different types of fish jellyfish seahorse etc. (I used finding Nemo characters and SpongeBob to make it fun) aquarium plants and you must have the hat to finish it off!

Good luck with your own aquarium and fish Halloween costumes

Aquarium Costume

I wanted something unique and different for my son for Halloween this year and of course cost efficient. I had the idea of fish Halloween costumes so came up with this fish tank / aquarium. Everything I purchased was from the local dollar store with the exception of the material, vinyl, lights and batteries.

It is simply made out of a cardboard box covered in black material with a hole cut out of the front and holes for his head and arms and it is trimmed in electrical tape. The opening in the front I covered with a piece of clear vinyl. I covered the whole inside with glued on construction paper (light blue)an recovered with some blue cellophane I got in the gift section of the dollar store.(before I put the cellophane in the back of the tank I covered that with fish border that you would put on a wall).

I covered the bottom with a couple of pounds of clear stones (with a lot of superglue) to make it look like the bottom of an aquarium and glued a couple of fish on the front that I cut out of the leftover fish border. I purchased a couple of long skinny battery operated lights which came in a two pack for $4.50 and batteries for $5.50. I topped it off with a turquoise turtleneck and attached some fish stickers to it to give it a 3D look. And there you have it……A really cool “safety first” Halloween costume for your little trick or treater.
