Homemade Animal Muppet Halloween Costume

Another one from our Homemade Animal Muppet Halloween Costume this year. This one took hours to put together. Again, supplies came from thrift and dollar stores, so you can do it cheap if you're willing to put in the time.

For the head:
I cut the rim off a baseball cap to use as the base. I then covered it in fabric from an orange tshirt. The eyes are a large craft Styrofoam ball cut in half and hot-glued on. The nose was cut from a large piece of foam and covered in fuschia felt. I used black feathers for his characteristic bushy eyebrows. The hair is a couple red/orange cheerleader pompoms cut up and hot-glued all over the head.

I cut the jaw and teeth out of cardboard, covered it in the tshirt fabric to get it the right colour, and sewed it to the hat.

We made his spiky neck and wrist bands with cardboard and duct tape, and bought a few feet of thick chain to attach to the neck. An old pair of jeans got shredded and tied up with a thick rope belt. The signature shirt started as two tshirts, red and yellow, which we cut apart and re-sewed into Animal's crazy rocker tshirt, tied together with rope.

A few tubes of body paint from the dollar store finished it off- we painted his face black for inside Animal's mouth, and his whole body bright orange!

Our Muppet costumes were the big hit of the party all night, they had a blast!

Homemade Animal from the Muppets Costume

My nickname is Animal, so this year I decided that my Halloween costume would be a Homemade Animal from the Muppets Costume.

For the head, I used 1/2" upholstery foam which I cut and placed in layers on top of each other to make the shape. I then covered it with orange felt.

For the hair, I used one whole skein of pink yarn and scraps of other yarns. I glued it in clumps to the mask.

The eyes are actually white painted tennis balls with holes cut out of them. I recommend using whiffle balls (I was just cheap and used what I had).

I bought orange stretch velor for the body suit, brown pleather for the pants and made the vest using scrap fabrics. Old orange slippers were my shoes.

The most time consuming part was cutting the yarn and gluing it to the mask. In total, I think I spent about 10 hours constructing this entire costume. Total cost was around $40.

This year for Halloween my friends and I all agreed we should dress up as Jim Henson characters. Animal is definitely the coolest one (in my opinion) so he was the obvious choice.

To make his head I took a baseball cap and felt and stuffed the hat to bulk it up. The eyes and nose are foam balls covered in felt and his eyebrows are black feathers. The mouth is a Styrofoam ring that I cut in half and covered with felt, and the teeth are also made from felt and stuffed to make them have dimension. The hair is a combination of red and pink yarn and a fun fur type of yarn I found at the craft store. His cuffs are also made from felt.

Got a pair of drumsticks and the transformation of the DIY Animal Halloween Costume was complete!

The entire Animal from the Muppets DIY Halloween Costume was made from scratch, including the wig. The wig is actually an infusion of three wigs, then styled to look like animals hair. I spent the entire evening drumming on everything and chasing women! ANIMAL!!!! ANIMAL!!!! BAWHHHHHH!
