Homemade Hiccup Costume

Material needed:

Gray, long-sleeved shirt ($3 from Target)
Dark gray sweatpants ($5 from Target)
Brown “fur” ($5 from fabric store)
Tan fabric for belt ($1 scrap from fabric store)
Brown leather straps ($2 from fabric store)
Viking hat

For his school Halloween party, our son wanted to be Hiccup from the movie “How to Train Your Dragon.” I couldn’t find a green shirt anywhere so we went with gray (close enough). I cut off the hem from around the neck and cut a V in the center, as well as at the bottom of the shirt. I used thin, brown leather strapping that I purchased from the fabric store and wrapped it around his wrists/forearms as well as weaved at the V in the neck. I hot glued and slip-stitched them into place.

The belt is a simple tan leathery-looking fabric that I hot-glued around his waist to his shirt and sewed on to reinforce. The vest and boot covers were made from dark brown coarse felt. I made the boot covers large enough to go over his shoes but tight enough at the toes so they’d be snug on his shoes. The fabric was rigid enough that it didn’t need reinforcements at the top of the boot. He just slid right in.

We already had the gray sweatpants and helmet from previous costumes. This Homemade Hiccup Costume was the cutest costume and super comfortable for him to wear at school. He was able to walk/run very easily with the boot covers on, thankfully!

TOTAL TIME: 3 hours
TOTAL COST: $15

Jack frost is a recycled 70's white John Travolta costume with homemade added touches. I used craft foam and cut icicles which hung on shoulders, pocket, sleeves and collar. Added icy branches to collar, sprayed entire jacket with craft snow. Use white hair color to spike up hair with touch of blue, white clown powder for face then sprayed entire person with glitter hair spray to give that final glistening sparkle. This doesn't show up in photo but looked awesome in person.

Ice princess used a old white dress from Goodwill which we added sparkly garland to bodices and trim. Hair was done same as Jack and entire costume and person sprayed with sparkly hairspray. Her "crown" was made of cheap hair headband from $1 tree with Christmas icicle ornaments hot glued upward. Added white hoody for warmth.

Everyone went wild for the Homemade Jack Frost and Ice Princess Unique Couple Costume Ideas and they won their costume contest.

jack frost costume idea's
by: Victoria

My son who's ten, is not the most confident person and struggles sometimes, he is due to play jack frost in his school play about the seasons and forces of nature, he had some great idea's about what he wanted his costume to be like but had trouble putting it into words and then we were just looking at the computer one day and came across the pictures from Chris S in Alliance, Ohio, USA, they were fab, my son loved them and if Chris reads this i just wanted to say thank-you, all the way from England, for the brilliant idea's and pictures.

Coolest Homemade Rocky and Bullwinkle Costume

Homemade Rocky and Bullwinkle Costume

Homemade Rocky and Bullwinkle Costume

This was my cheap and easy Rocky and Bullwinkle costume. All I did for Rocky was buy an Amelia Earhart head gear and spray painted it blue. I also wore swimming goggles for my pilot’s eyewear. I then made took a long gray sock and stuffed it with other socks to make my tail.

The scarf came from a Salvation Army store and I simply painted on whiskers and wore all grey clothing. One of the most important parts was the teeth. I used bunny teeth, but be careful because you can cut up your mouth pretty good with them. Bullwinkle was easy, because all you had to do was dress in brown and wear a moose hat. This costume was very mobile and didn’t cover up my face, so everyone still knew who I was.

Everyone knew who we were when we were together, but beware when separated for questions about the costume.
