Pirate Jack Sparrow Homemade Halloween Costume

Pirate Jack Sparrow Homemade Halloween Costume

My son is 4 here and really wanted to be a Pirate. He loved Jack Sparrow so I started thinking how to put together a Pirate Jack Sparrow Homemade Halloween Costume. I don't like spending money on costumes, and this one I spent $0 dollars on!

My son already had a dress up chest from the previous Christmas full of pirate gear and other various dress up clothes. So I used the skull shirt that came in it and the plastic hat on his head. I used a peasant blouse of his older sister (age 7) under the skull shirt to have that pirate look.

He wore jewelry of mine with stones and jewels to look more like Jack Sparrow. He let me draw eyeliner on him as best I could with him being only 4 yrs. I also gave him a goat-tee for more rugged effect. I taped up a huge belt of mine to fit his tiny waist that went well with the pirate look. We put his sword and gun in there that he already had as well.

He wore just a pair of red sweat pants and we tucked them into his sister's boots and bloused them out to get the look we wanted! He was such a good sport to wear both his sister's shirt and too big boots!! and Mom's jewelry, but he desperately wanted to look as close Jack Sparrow as possible, so I am sure he would have let us do anything!

We got loads of compliments!

Jack Sparrow Costume

I got the idea to do this Jack Sparrow costume after jokingly running through 4 lanes of traffic while flaring my arms. My friends said "You run like Jack Sparrow." So I decided to go with it.

I thought about it for about the next year re watching the movies and slowly getting down quotes and the way he talks. Slowly over the year I began to buy fabric and some Good Will clothes to edit and use as patterns. I spent 30 hours right before Halloween hand sewing the costume together.

I started going out to pre-Halloween parties a week before actual Halloween 2007. This enabled me to get reactions from people of things I needed to add and work on. Wearing the costume has been an amazing experience. I've posed for around 400 photos and become somewhat famous at my college simply for the costume and the character of performing as Jack Sparrow when in costume.

I knew I did well when people told me they didn't just think I was in costume as jack sparrow, they thought I was actually Johnny Depp.

Captain Jack Sparrow Costume

We were headed to Disney in the fall and my son wanted a really great pirate costume. I got the pattern for a captain Jack Sparrow costume from a local fabric store, but had to change a couple of things. All of the fabric that I used was on clearance for $1.00 a yd. at Walmart.

For the hat, I did purchase the hat, but the hair was horrible. I bought yarn that had mohair in it and loosely braided all of his locks. Eyeliner is a must for this costume!
