Homemade Flying Monkey from the Wizard of Oz Dog Costume
This year for Halloween, we wanted to dress our 2 year old English Bulldog, Goldberg, up as a Flying Monkey from the Wizard of Oz.
Unfortunately, we could not find any costumes in stores or on-line, so we decided to make our own Homemade Flying Monkey from the Wizard of Oz Dog Costume. We got feather boas for the monkey fur and tail, aluminum foil to make the hat and ears, a wire hanger for the tail, wings from a costume store and also bought fabric and trim to make the vest and to cover the hat and ears.
It took a lot of fabric glue, a lot of patience and almost 8 hours of construction to get this costume finished, but we did it! Lucky for us, Goldberg is such a good boy and sat for a couple hours while we dressed him for this picture. We were so proud of him and so glad all of our hard work paid off!

Homemade Flying Monkey from Wizard of Oz Costume
This is a picture of my husband in a Homemade Flying Monkey from Wizard of Oz Costume. We made this costume totally from scratch (except the wings). We used fun fur for the body and and hands. I found a gray vest at value village and cut it in half so I would have extra fabric for the sleeves.
For the decoration on the vest and hat I used craft felt and sewed it on. I found red and gold trim and trimmed the inside of the jacket and sleeves. For the hat I found at the dollar store a small basket and covered it with the left over fabric from the vest and craft felt. For make-up I used white, bright blue, and black. It took me about an hour to do the make-up.

Homemade Wizard of Oz Flying Monkeys Costumes
My kids were invited to a Wizard of Oz themed party and I immediately thought there would be too many lions, scarecrows and tin men so I wanted to get a little more creative. Who doesn't love those creepy flying monkeys? I dressed as the wicked witch and made my twins Homemade Wizard of Oz Flying Monkeys Costumes.
I began with some old baby bat costumes and then used felt, ribbon and hot glue to transform them into the cutest little flying monkeys complete with Hat, ears and tail. The vests could be taken on and off as well as the head piece. The wings were attached to the vests. They were far from evil but charmed everyone at the party! The costumes took about an hour each to make and were so easy!
