Homemade Flying Genie Halloween Costume

This Homemade Flying Genie Halloween Costume was relatively easy to construct. The rug was held rigid using chicken wire tacked to the bottom. Old belts under the clothing made a harness which held the rug around the waist. Make sure to keep the wire edges covered with duct tape or they will scratch.

To balance the fake legs, a treasure box was tacked behind the genie. We filled it with old jewelry. The legs were filled with plastic grocery bags to keep this light weight.

The costume itself was made by using a children’s clothing pattern. The shoes and hat were constructed by drawing a pattern, sewing this together and stuffing them with plastic grocery bags. If you are not into sewing, finding clothing parts at a thrift store is cheap and easy. The hat is easy to make and can be made of cardboard and painted or fabric glued on.

The arm in the cast was not part of the original costume idea.

Coolest Homemade Flying Carpet Rider Costume

Homemade Flying Carpet Rider Costume

I got all of the materials at either the thrift store or the hardware store for this Flying Carpet Rider Costume. I started by cutting a hole in the carpet, then nailing it to a wooden frame. I made the frame a little shorter than the carpet so that it would 'ripple.'

I then cut a hole in the butt of a pair of pants so that the legs would rest on top of the carpet, which I then stuffed with plastic grocery bags to make legs. I stapled the pants around the hole in the carpet so that it looked like the pants were 'sitting' on the carpet. The whole thing is held up with suspenders.

Very cool! I love the overall idea and the detailed accessories!

Did you make the hat? Also, how did you attach the wooden board to the suspenders to hold it up?

Coolest Homemade Genie on a Magic Carpet Costume 5

by Jeanne
(Sherwood, AR)

My daughter Oksana was the coolest homemade Genie floating on a Magic Carpet.

She wore dark pants over her "real legs" to hide them. Her "genie legs" were stuffed with plastic bags and fake shoes were added. These fake shoes were cardboard cut-outs, wrapped in tin foil and spray painted gold. The magic carpet was a piece of foam used to stuff pillows. I cut out a hole to fit around her waist, covered it in a silky fabric and added tassels to look like a magic carpet.
