To make this homemade Lucy and Ethel in the Candy Factory couple costume idea we started with a pattern for a lab coat. The lab coat ended up a bit boxier than we thought, but with the drawstring it was ok.
We used a black fabric to create the collar and sleeve cuffs. We actually sewed up the front and added the black buttons just for effect. I then cut out a felt heart and embroidered I love Lucy onto it and sewed it on the collar. I made chef hats and Ethel used a blond mullet wig and rolled up the back into a knot. Lucy just sprayed her hair orange.
We used foam board and wrapped it in tin foil, then put a piece of wax paper across the board to create the look of the conveyor belt. We glued on chocolate covered cherries in a line and a bunch piled up then wrapped a couple on the other side and glued down a stack of wrappers. We then attached fishing ling to the corners and hung the boards over our shoulders.
We had a blast!
