For people that cant get into the Halloween costume spirit I always say the same thing-Halloween is a time to think about who you are, all your characteristics and find a character that exists in this world who truly embodies you. My partner and I decided to go as Kermit and Piggy for Halloween considering how perfectly they embody our personalities. I am the sassy, fashion conscious powerful diva where as my partner is the quieter, easy going supportive type. We wanted to make a positive statement about marriage equality (and inter-species marriage) which is why we went as the married Kermit and Piggy (we also went out as a 50’s version for fun on another night).
We spent a lot of time looking at pictures of Kermit and Piggy online to get ideas about how to make these costumes. The Kermit costume was made mostly using a sweat shirt cut to look like a hood. The eyes were purchased from a costume supply store for about 2.50. We covered up the hold in the center and painted the Kermit-esque eyes on them.
Piggy was essentially what I would look like as a bride (minus the pig nose). The dress and Kermit’s outfit and veil were all thrift finds, I purchased a blonde wig, eyelashes, contacts, gloves from a general Halloween costume store. I found and amazing prosthetic pig nose at a local store. I used spirit gum to attach it. It was a pain to drink/eat all night (I needed to drink from a straw). It was so worth it.
This was my favorite costume ever. It is going to be so hard to top these costumes seeing as though these characters REALLY are us in many ways.
