I made this Homemade Princess Tiana Costume for my daughter in September 2009 for her to wear for Halloween. I didn’t have a pattern for this dress and made the whole thing from scratch (my mother helped with the painstaking flower and headpiece).

Bodice: The bodice front was made using four petal patterns cut from ivory and green satin. Each piece was double lined with fusible interfacing and fabric and turned inside out. I used clear bra straps to support the back was essentially two rectangles lined in the same fashion. It only took a yard of each fabric for the bodice.

Skirt: The underskirt was made using 6 yards of gathered tulle. The petal part was made using 2 yards of ivory satin with petals that were hand drawn out and (like the bodice) lined with interfacing and fabric. I sewed up the center of each “petal” to add detail. The over skirt of green was essentially five large petals free cut from green satin and gathered at the top. This was A LOT of layers to sew through but ye old reliable managed the job using heavy weight thread.

Flower: The flower was made using scraps of ivory satin, cut into petals, sewn and turned inside out. Pipe cleaners were inserted and stitched to the middle to allow the petals to bend. The dark green leaves were sewn the same way. The long trailing pieces were formed using a piece of old wire hanger.

Headband: The headband was a basic fabric covered headband that we covered again in matching fabric using a hot glue gun. Extra petals were made using the technique above and wired beads were threaded through the center point of each before the petals were hot glued to the band.

How Can I Get This Dress?
by: Ann

OMG! I want this dress for my girl.

I guess your girl is big now so it doesn't fit her anymore. So, is the dress on sale? If so, contact me at k.muuse[at]hotmail[dot]com

Sad to Say...

The dress was lost when my DH, who saw the black bag it was in and decided to be helpful, left it curbside! It still hurts my heart because it was so beautiful!

Ever since I heard of the Princess and the frog coming into existence I was thrilled! And I’ve wanted to have a Princess Tiana costume for over a year now; but I gave up because NO stores sold any adult costumes from that film. So I just decided this year (armed with absolutely NO sewing skills) to take matters into my own hands and came up with my own Homemade Princess and the Frog Couple Halloween Costume Idea!

I lucked up on two dresses at a local thrift store that I just kind folded, gathered and pinned on top of one another to create a sort of leafy formal look. Then I went to the men’s section and found an old green 80’s blazer that looked just like a prince uniform when the collar was turned up! My tiara was actually made of wired ribbon twisted at the ends and a 99 cent headband! All it took from there was about 100 more safety pins, my boyfriend's willingness to wear it(lol) and a BUNCH of trips to craft stores for embellishments and I was done with my masterpieces.

It was a great Halloween for us too, I was even told that I could work as a Tiana for birthday parties, doesn't get any better than that!

great rendition

that's a great rendition of the costume.
If Disney makes adult ones, I've not yet found it. Even the ones for children took some searching to find one that was not too cheap looking and floor length for my 4 year old

Just Seeing this Now!

Coolest DIY Frog Prince Halloween Costume

DIY Frog Prince Halloween Costume

My little guy wanted to be the frog prince... so to bump it up a notch we decided to make him a kissing booth under. Prince charming needs help to find a princess to kiss right..lol.. and so we made a DIY frog prince Halloween costume.

We created a simple frog pattern costume... made a cardboard crown.. painted it gold and attached to the frog costume. Frog prince complete. For the kissing booth we took a large cardboard box covered it with red felt. Made the prince charming sign out of spare cardboard and printed out prince charming. We created the kissing booth letters out of white felt and attached... and added some printed coins to finish to booth.

To walk for trick or treat we used a backpack with metal frame to help support the booth. It came out cute... and fun! Our little prince looks good and had a blast tricker-treating. Total time 2 hours for the Frog costume.. and about 45 minutes for the kissing booth.

After seeing "The Princess and the Frog" my daughter knew for sure that she wanted to be Princess Tiana for the next Halloween. I could not find a licensed pattern so I used a combination of three patterns to put it all together. The basic shape is from Vogue 7819, for a stappy top, Butterick 5458, and for a good start on the petals, McCall's sort of Tiana costume, MP362. I did a lot of pattern drafting for the leaf skirt (in green) and adjusting for the petal skirt (ivory) to get it all to work. It took me over a month of sewing but it was worth it.

It naturally followed to make my infant son the frog. That was a basic frog costume pattern. I was thrilled with how his costume came out.

They were a hit all Halloween weekend! My daughter still dresses up in the Princess and the Frog Costume when she plays dress up with her friends. It was completely worth it!
