Coolest Homemade Super Mario Halloween Costume

My husband dropped on me that he wanted to be Super Mario for Halloween the day before he needed a costume. We went to some thrift stores looking for items to use for his Homemade Super Mario Halloween Costume, and we found an old extremely large choir robe in the exact color we needed for the overalls for $2.

I needed some kind of pattern to make overalls though, and I ended up using one for pajama pants. I measured how much higher I needed to make the waist, and from the sleeves I cut the front of the bib and the back. After making the pants, I made the top and sewed it together, adding the straps last. I then used hooks to close the straps, and cut circles from yellow felt for the buttons (I made them double thick).

The red shirt he actually found at Wal Mart in the boys department in an XXL, along with white gloves. I found a pretty good pattern for the hat online using red fleece, but used felt for the white circle, and using red felt and the font style “Porky’s” on Microsoft Word in size 150. I made the “M” and stitched it all together, and then drew on his mustache.

We were at Disney World this year, and it was such a hit there he actually took pictures with many of the children at the park. Total cost was $14.
