Coolest Homemade Dead Receptionist from Beetlejuice Costume

For the past 2 years my Halloween costumes have been a little lame, so I decided this year I was going to go all out. Having watched Beetle Juice earlier this year I knew I needed to be the dead receptionist! I bought the dress and the shoes. I sewed sparkly tulle over a shaped piece of armature wire for the cape.

For the sash, I ironed on letters in an appropriate font on an existing blank sash. The wig was the tricky part; I couldn’t find one that was styled correctly, so I bought one with curly pigtails and restyled it into an up-do, securing it with bobby pins, thread and a lot of intense hair spray.

The makeup was definitely fun, but time consuming. I used a water based turquoise color and set it with powder and a waterproof spray. For the face I used the same but painted in the highlights and shadows with a cream-based makeup so I wouldn’t look like a green blob. Oh and I applied prosthetic for the wrist slashes, but you can’t see them in this pic.

So here it is, my Homemade Dead Receptionist from Beetlejuice Costume !

  1. I’ve been trying to figure out the makeup and can’t get it exact….would you mind helping and being really specific with what you used? Please? I really want to get the same look as you got! Thanks! You look awesome!

  2. So I am defending my title at a costume contest this year and thought that this concept will do it! The only thing I am worried about is the makeup — do you have exactly what was used. I will also be outside so I like that you waterproofed the make up as well. Any help would be great as the makeup for this costume is the most important part.
