My son wanted to be BO DUKE from Dukes of Hazzard. I knew people might not recognize him so I decided to have him “drive” the General Lee.
I used 3 cardboard boxes (2 whole & 1 cut up for the middle with the remaining pieces used for the window/roof). I used 2 wrapping paper rolls for the front bumper. About 3 coats of regular orange paint and black spray paint. Spray paint would be preferred but I couldn’t find orange spray-paint.
The 01/flag/wheels were photocopied off computer and blown up in color at a office supply store. Everything was duct taped together with the exception of the suspenders and bumper which were zip tied.
I purchased a $10 voice recorder from Radio Shack and recorded the “rebel horn” off the computer. Holes were cut on the inside of the box for the button/speaker… this was also just duct taped. And I suggest buying name brand duct tape… I started out with the good stuff… ended with a knock off brand and you could tell a difference with the holding power.
This General Lee Dukes of Hazzard Costume Car was a LOT of work but all the rave reviews while trick or treating made it worth while. Plus now my son wants to save it and have a Dukes birthday party.
