This was for a birthday party for a nephew of mine, back in 1990 when the Ninja Turtles were all the rage.
I made this Ninja Turtles costume myself with craft store foam and lycra. The head was made of papier-mache and covered with foam and lycra. The mouth was a piece of white panty-hose (you should have seen the look I got from the check-out girl) and I could see perfectly through it.
The real fun part was the shell. I took some stiff wire I found in my dad's garage and formed the "wireframe" of the back shell. I added pieces of foam to mimic the shell and the rim of the shell was "foam in a can" from Home Depot.
This gave the shell it a real organic look. I painted it with spray paint and voila! The turtle was complete.
Sad news though, I had left my Ninja Turtles costume for months in an old rent house my dad bought and when I went to retrieve it... to my horror! the rats had eaten the entire thing leaving only the wire and some mush. Arrrgh! I was so angry! But at least I got these pictures to remind me of my old masterpiece. Hope you all enjoy! Total spent: $30.00
