This is our little “Scarecrow Homemade Halloween Costume”, Tyler. His costume is homemade by me, his mommy. I took an old pair of overalls some scrap material and a little creativity. My secret weapon was using an old hula skirt as his straw hair, stuffing, etc. We used an old wagon we had in the garage, added some real hay, gourds, corn, and a store bought girl scarecrow.
The only items I didn’t have around the house was the flannel shirt I picked up at a second hand store and the straw hat, together they cost me about $3.50. I used a hot glue gun to attach the hula skirt to the hat and inside the cuffs of the pants and shirt. Added a few patches of material and then my adorable 2-year old. And wow it was an awesome costume.
This Scarecrow Homemade Halloween Costume was very inexpensive and a whole lot of fun to make. We have received so many compliments. I cant wait to see what we can come up with next year. I am so proud of our teamwork!!

Well, where do I start? My 4 year old son Tanner decided the he wanted to be a scarecrow for Halloween this year. His father and I thought that it was a cute and easy costume idea. We figured on going to the store and purchasing the scarecrow costume, afterall a scarecrow is a pretty common thing. We thought wrong! After going to as many as 6 Halloween stores and doing an online search we realized that for some unknown reason there are no scarecrow costumes in my son's size to be purchased. Really??
So first we tried to get him to change his mind but we soon realized that wasn't happening either, my alternative? Make a Homemade Scarecrow Halloween Costume. I was afraid that my son would look like one of those kids whose mommy tried but failed at a homemade costume because I had never made a costume before, but to my surprise it turned out great, everyone loved it but most importantly, my son loved it!

We wanted to make her a Homemade Halloween Scarecrow Costume but didn't want to do the typical old boring overalls thing. Way too blah for our princess, so we came up with a more feminine version.
We created the pink plaid top that laces up in the back and has an adorable heart patch on the front. The tutu skirt has tiny pink bows tied all around. We also made arm and leg warmers. The leg warmers are made to look like burlap and have cute patches sewn onto them. Both the arm and leg warmers have tulle sewn around the edges to simulate straw. The outfit comes complete with a pair of bloomers with a pink plaid heart sewn onto the butt. The whole thing is just tutu cute!
She loves it ! We actually had to make her another tutu just to wear around the house and we can't wait to take her trick or treating to show off her fabulous costume.
This year my family and I decided to go as characters from the Wizard of Oz. I decided to make a Homemade Scarecrow Halloween Costume. It was a very simple. To begin with I glued burlap (purchased at a fabric store) to an old pair of blue jeans. I added straw/hay around the edges (I used an old grass skirt) of the pants and flannel shirt.
I glued to pieces of burlap together to drape over the shirt and added leaves and patches I cut out of felt. I purchased a crow at my local dollar store and glued it on the back on the shirt. Finally I took the hat from a scarecrow we already had and added straw and leaves. I made my son’s face up with orange colored make-up and black eyeliner.
We got so many compliments on the costume! It was very easy and very inexpensive to make, fewer than 12 dollars.
