When thinking about a celeb who was famous for wearing specs in the run up to Halloween 2008, there was only really one topical contender; Alaska's finest, Sarah Palin. So I made myself a Homemade Sarah Palin Costume.
I bought a cheap red blazer from eBay and pinned it at the back to make it fit. Another online purchase was a 'McCain/Palin 08' election badge to adorn the jacket. The trousers were just a plain black smart pair.
The hair was a big issue, because I don't have a fringe/bangs. I discovered (much to my horror) that you can buy attachable ones online, so I took the plunge! It doesn't look great in this photo, but it worked well to the point where close friends wondered if I'd always had that hair or not.
The rest of my hair was bouffanted up to within an inch of its life and hairsprayed heavily and clipped at the back.
As for the make up, I basically put on twice as much foundation, concealer and powder as I would normally. I also did tons of blusher and pale pink lipstick, applied liberally throughout the evening. The effect was that flatmate told me I'd aged 20 years instantly she felt like she was looking at the me from the future. Perfect!
I carried an American flag around with me all night. I drank Bud with some 'Joe Six Packs'. On the tube on the way to the party, I managed to bump into another Palin, who was carrying a hockey stick, which was a great idea too.
I spent a lot of time on my Sarah Palin Costume. I don't have bangs, but I was able to sweep my hair to the side in front to make it look like i had bangs. I also made a sash that said 'runner up miss Alaska'.
Since it was a few days before the election in 2008, I handed out vote for Obama stickers. It added a fun touch to the costume and got a lot of attention! I found a large metal moose ornament that I used as a pin on my jacket. I also picked up cheap Sarah Palin look alike glasses at the local Walmart store.
I had a plain black jacket and got a cute short black skirt at goodwill. It was by far the best costume I've ever had! i also wore a lot of eye makeup and tons of blush like she does.
I was inspired by Tina Fey to be Sarah Palin in 2008 and it was a blast! I walked around the whole night saying things like "I can see Russia from my house!" and reciting all of Sarah's children's names. I'm told I do an excellent Palin imitation and this Sarah Palin Costume Idea was so much fun! Sadly I was without a Todd Palin but I did find a McCain that night!
The suit was from Goodwill and I bought the glasses at Walgreens. I enlarged a a picture of a flag pin found online and printed it on my color printer. I'm glad Sarah is still around do I can get some more uses out of that costume.
This is my Sarah Palin Homemade Halloween Costume. I wore a feminine business suit like she does: red heals, black slacks, bright red top, and a tan and red suit jacket. I wore an up-do with side bangs and glasses to top off the Sarah Palin image. I also spoke in 'Palin' the whole night adding in several "you betchas" and things of that nature. To pull off this costume, you must have confidence!
