This costume came to mind because my son got a rubix cube for Christmas last year, which was one of his simplest gifts and he ended up loving it the most. My husband and I decided to make him a rubix cube costume for Halloween.
It actually was real simple. We purchased the following supplies: Black foam board(craft store) Multi-color construction paper (craft store) Hot glue gun (craft store) Hot glue sticks (craft store) Regular glue stick (craft store) Box cutter (hardware store)
My husband then measured my son to see how big the shape of the rubix cube would be on him, made sure it wasn't too big or too small for his frame. There would be three tiers to the costume that later would be glued together. He cut out a square 23", the four walls measured 23"l and 81/2"w. He then glued the four walls with the square on top to form box. He then reinforced corner with scrap foam board so they wouldn't come apart. He created three just alike.
A hole was cut out for his head on the top square, a hole wide enough for his waist & body on the other two squares. My husband then hot glued the three squares together. I had the construction paper cut at an office supply store in a 7x7 size. My husband then used a glue stick to paste the construction paper of each color on each tier of the rubix cube. We used a glue stick so that the construction paper wouldn't get any bumps on it.
We totally loved it!! There is nothing like homemade costumes, he is so excited to go trick or treating!!

This year I decided on a human Homemade Rubiks Cube Costume! I bought 10 x 30 foam core boards from Michaels arts and crafts store. I cut the boards in half using box cutter and used a hot glue gun to glue each piece together. Once each layer is constructed and glued together, you can begin creating the lines with black duct tape. Once the cosmetics of the costume are done you can start assembling the pieces together. In order to create a more realistic look, I made the cube appear twisted. The bottom two layers are screwed together with an electrical drill, and to hold it up we drilled holes into the bottom and middle layer of the boards and looped two shoe strings through them to go over my neck. It is essentially how a beer vendor carries his box around at baseball games. The foam core already came colored, except the purple, we used construction paper for that.
It took about 8-9 hours, it is very stressful and time consuming but definitely worth it! I entered two costume contests with it and won them both!

Homemade Rubik's Cube Halloween Costume Idea
I am a child of the 80's and have always loved items from the era! I thought a homemade Rubik's Cube Halloween costume idea would be so cool and fun for this year's Halloween costume! I wanted to do separate moving pieces but didn't get a chance to get that detailed so I started with a cardboard box and went from there.
I used colored felt for my squares and black duct tape for the boxing of the Rubix cube. I then topped it all off with my famous face painting that I do every year. Since I work in an office I had to take the box off to work but the face paint kept me in costume all day long!! This is my favorite costume to date :)
