Every year at Halloween time I ask my son what he wants to be for Halloween. This year he chose a Homemade Box of Popcorn Costume. Knowing I couldn't go purchase one his size, I decided to make it. I made the frame out of pipe insulation from Home Depot and stiff floral wire. It's shaped into a rectangle nicely. Then I sewed together 4" strips of red and white felt and scalloped the top like the real popcorn boxes. I hot glued on some felt straps to hold the frame onto my son's shoulders. Then I used some white felt for the top part and glued in some bubble wrap for puffiness and then hot glued on some packing peanuts to the top of that. The hat is made from an ear warmer that I stitched white felt on and glued more packing peanuts on that. I cut out the star and POPCORN and stitched those on the front. I used a large font in word and printed it out as my template for the letters.
Coming up with the correct butter color was a challenge. I first had it too orange, then too yellow, but I got a nice combination and colored the popcorn with the paint and a paintbrush. Opened up some armholes from two seams in each side and wa la... we have a yummy box of popcorn.
That is basically how I came up with this costume; took about 5 days off and on, lots of stitching, lots of felt and lots of glue from the glue gun.
My daughter wanted to be a box of POPCORN for Halloween last year. It was a great costume that got a lot of compliments, and it was not that hard to make. The body of the costume was made out of cardboard, shaped into the size of a box, and duct taped to hold its form. We then covered the entire box with a white and red thin foam that we bought at the art supply store, to resemble the common striped popcorn box. We also made a "Popcorn" logo and hot glued it to the front of the box.
The top of the costume, where the shoulders are, were covered with the canned foam insulation called "Great Stuff", which we bought at Home Depot. We layered the foam so it looked like overflowing popcorn, and then stuck REAL POPCORN into the foam before it dried, covering the foam with the real popcorn. It looked awesome.
As a finishing touch to this Homemade Popcorn Costume Idea, we found a red plastic fireman's hat which we also covered in Great Stuff and Popcorn. Like I said before, she got a ton of compliments on this costume, and even won a trophy from our town's "Mayor's Halloween Party!"
My homemade popcorn adult Halloween costume was created using an old dress, red painters tape, spray paint and a tutu.
The dress was an old, white beach cover-up. I used the red painters tape to create the stripes and the word “PoPcorn.” I bought a red child’s sized tutu and spray painted it yellow and gold to use for the popcorn (then wore it on my chest).
In addition, I created a popcorn purse using cardboard, white paint, red ribbon and more painters tape. I used hot glue to glue together the cardboard and then painted it white. After the paint dried, I used the painters tape to create the stripes and the words. I then used a hot glue gun to glue on the ribbon (handle). I filled it with popcorn and handed it out all night.
To top it off, I wore red tights and red shoes with a “popping” red flower!
Started looking online for some costume ideas and came across this homemade popcorn costume idea - and decided to create it myself.
I started out with a plain cardboard box, cut it to fit my body and covered in red and white paper. Took packing peanuts and glued them on. After they were glued on, I spray painted them yellow. Took a shower cap and glued more packing peanuts and sprayed them yellow too!
Here is my creation for a popcorn box. Everyone loved it and said my popcorn looked real enough to eat.
The main part of this PopCorn Box Costume is just a box that fits my son. I just cut out the armholes and neck hole. I spray painted the box white then taped off the stripes and painted them red. I got letter cut outs and traced them and hand paint the POP CORN logo.
The popcorn was made from Great Stuf, layered on top of each other.
