I am an extremely poor college student and needed to come up with a low budget costume. I was rummaging through a bag of things that I used in the summer for a story time program and found yellow streamer paper which led to the homemade pinata adult Halloween costume idea. I cut the streamer paper into strips and hot glued them onto the dress. You need to do at least three layers otherwise the paper will crunch up (something I didn't discover until two nights before Halloween). Make sure you start from the bottom of the dress and work your way up.

I then hot glued candy to the leggings. Note- the leggings were heavvvvvvy (but worth it). For the tail, I used a fairy head piece that had long ribbon attached. The head piece was a party favor for a three year old I babysit. I wrapped extra streamer paper around the wreath part so it could blend in. Overall this homemade pinata adult Halloween costume idea can be executed for less than $10 as long as you don't mind using clothes you already have.

Costume Breakdown:

* Pre-existing pink wig
* Pre-existing plain dress I use for costumes
* Pre-existing leggings
* Pre-existing hot glue
* Pre-existing fairy head piece
* 3 additional rolls of streamer paper = $3.00 (dollar store)
* 2 bags of spearmint hard candies, 2 bags of smarties, and 2 rolls of Starbursts + lollipops accumulated from bank trips = about $4.00 (CVS extra bucks/promotions)

Coolest Pinata Costume 10

With a birthday on Cinco de Mayo, I’ve always felt a shared kinship with the piñata. This year I took it to the next level! I love Halloween so what better way to celebrate my fiesta friendship than with an ode to the traditional Mexican creation.

The Homemade Pinata Costume was fairly basic in construction, but incredibly detail oriented. It required an embarrassing number of hours sitting at the sewing machine adding strips of basic color block fabric to a hoodie/ sweatpants combo. I made sure to keep the hoodie pocket open considering this costume had to be a functional candy dispenser!

Phone wire and duct tape helped to form the head which I sewed on to the hood as well. The best part was finishing the strips and cutting them into that fun, paper-y look that we all know and love. It was warm and lightweight- a total success. My “hombre” boyfriend helped to complete the statement.

Word of warning- people are going to ask if they can beat you all night. Kind of got old after awhile, but the general reception on NYC streets was positive and fun! Buena suerte and Happy Halloween!

Coolest Piñata Costume 2

I was talking to a friend of mine about what I should be for Halloween and came up with the bright idea of me being a piñata. So I went to Walmart and bought some sweat pants and jacket for $5.00 each, 2 bottles of fabric glue which were $2.00 each and then I went to the dollar store and bought 5 different colors of streamer paper. So the total cost that I spent on my costume was $19.00. I spent around 6-7 hours gluing each piece of paper on the sweat pants and jacket.

I was also carrying a bat around and had my pockets full of candy so when someone would hit me with the bat I would throw candy in the air. I had a lot of fun with this costume.

I also won first place in the Halloween contest at work. I can't wait for next year's Halloween!
