My daughter and I were at McDonald's in the drive thru waiting for our food a few years back (yes it took them that long, its all cold now!) and she told out of nowhere that she was scared to death of frickin' clowns. (Ronald McDonald was hanging out inside, ya see.) So I thought to myself "She's been a bit of a brat lately. Not doing homework and keeping her room clean, talking back, not getting along with my girlfriend, etc... its time to teach her a lesson."

I started researching online everything I would need for a Homemade Pennywise Clown Costume, I bought the DVD, watched it over and over again for inspiration (and to get his mannerisms down right), found a contact lens dealer who altered them to my specs, found teeth, went shopping in NYC for the shoes, wig and makeup. My coworker Pat used to make costumes for the Supremes, and she made her son a very convincing Spider-Man costume when he was little, so I showed her pics I had printed out from the movie and go "Can you make this??" A week later she showed me she could.

I've won numerous costume contests, scared the hell outta patrons in Walmart while looking for PoliGrip to keep my dentures in, oh yeah and my daughter screams at the top of her lungs when I mention putting it on again for old times sake. I hear they are doing the movie over again, I hope they pick me to star!

Here is my Pennywise The Clown Costume from Halloween 2010. I decided to do this costume as I knew it would be a real challenge and as you can see a lot of work and money went into it. The costume went down a storm on the Halloween night out that I go on with all my mates every year.

The costume consisted of a mask that was bought off the internet from America and then I added a bigger red nose as the mask's original. It didn't look big enough, the trousers are some decorators white overalls that I dyed yellow but I bought them oversize to try and give them a baggy effect like on the film.

The clown ruffle was from a company off eBay which hand makes them to your specific size. The waistcoat is a standard size one which I cut down and then stitched red trim round edges. The shirt was the most tricky part as I bought a purple oversize silk shirt and then bought some aqua material and cut them into stripes to stitch on the shirt to give me the authentic look of Pennywise. Hope you enjoy the pics.

After seeing the film, as a kid, I fell in love with the movie! One of my favorite actors 'Tim Curry' and also loving the design of the costume, I decided to make my own Stephen King's IT - Pennywise the Clown Costume. I was given an old Singer sewing machine, for free, so I gave it a bash!

I bought a basic clown pattern and modified it, the best I could, to the actual one! It wasn't easy, and also involved some bad language, but kind of got there in the end.

I struggled with the material for the sleeve design, so again - I customized my own. It went well and I was pleased with the outcome. It took in total, about 6 hours work (from a total beginner on the sewing machine..).

I was very pleased on the actual night (Halloween 2010)! I was well respected for the time which I had taken on the costume. I wasn't altogether happy with the make-up, but others appreciated the outcome! It even earned me a free beer! Wahooo!
