My coolest DIY peacock Halloween costume was inspired when I was trying to think of something different and pretty and original for my Halloween costume this year. It’s been awhile since I dressed up, the last time I was a tree (not a Christmas tree, but the talking tree in Pocahontas). However, I didn’t have any pictures from that costume and that was over a decade ago. Then that gave me an idea that for this year I will make a homemade peacock costume.
Since male peacocks are the ones that are colorful and the females are plain I decided to make my rendition of a female peacock meets flapper (basically a female flapper peacock costume). It was a long and difficult process, especially on short notice, but I had so much fun making it.
So to celebrate I went to the Annual Halloween Parade in Manhattan with one of my friends and strutted my tail feathers like a proud pretty peacock. The costume was a huge success and I managed not to whack anyone with my tail feathers too! At that moment I knew it was worth it. If it wasn’t for one of my friends that invited me out for a night of Halloween festivities I never would have come up with the idea. I would like to say thank you to him for giving me my creative inspiration back. Woo hoo!
I hope you guys at CoolestHomemadeCostume like my pretty peacock costume and vote for me. This will be such an honor if I win and make my graduate student life that more excited.

Homemade Pretty Peacock Halloween Costume Idea
I decided to try my hand at making my daughter's homemade pretty peacock Halloween costume idea this year.
I made an oblong circle skirt, so it was short in the front and long in the back, out of a shiny satin material, and lined with a matching dark blue cotton. I then bought a couple of boas at the local dollar store and sewed them around the bottom of the skirt. The petticoat is made from strips of dark green, light green, purple, and blue tulle that I tied to a band of elastic, like a tutu. I used a matching blue bodysuit for her top so she would stay relatively warm.
For the tail, I glued peacock feathers to a fan and sewed it to the back of the skirt, and tied a ribbon around the handle part of the fan so it wouldn’t show. As a finishing touch I added a peacock headband that I bought at a local accessories store.
