Before my son Jared was born, I was a big collector of shoes, Nike shoes to be more specific. Like any child of the 80's, Michael Jordan shoes were the "it" thing to have.

So naturally, when I found out I was pregnant, I started to get mini versions of my favorite sneakers so that he too could be a sneaker aficionado.

But I realized that wasn't enough. Not only did I want him to wear the shoes, but I thought "Hey, why not put my two loves together make my son a shoe?" Thus, "Air Jared" was born.

Since the Air Jordan 1's started it all for the Jordan shoe line, I decided to create my own version of it for my son's Halloween costume. I constructed it with foam and used vinyl for the exterior and signature Nike swoosh, all hand-sewn. The shoelaces were made from huge shoelace-like ribbon and the eyelets were constructed using electrical tape. The soles of the shoe were painted white with modeling paint. The emblems were enlarged, laminated and glued on.

To complete the Nike Air Jared Costume, the real Air Jordan 1's had to be on "Air Jared"'s feet. Happy Halloween!

Coolest Homemade Listerine Action Hero Halloween Costume

Homemade Listerine Action Hero Halloween Costume

I absolutely love Halloween and make a costume every year. One of my favorite costumes ever was going out as a Homemade Listerine Action Hero Halloween Costume.

I bought a bottle of Listerine to base the costume from. I drew the label on a piece of Bristol board outlining it in black marker and painted in the details. I made a base out of Bristol board and packing tape to shape it around my shoulders so that the costume would fall properly. I cut a hole through for my head.

Then I draped a white plastic sheet over the Bristol board yoke and taped it over the shoulder piece using clear packing tape. Next step was to cut blue plastic recycling bags and cover the base completely by taping them on. Then I cut armholes and made a straight hem across the bottom. The body of the costume was completed by taping the label unto it.

For the “cap” I purchased a black lampshade and wired it to a thick black headband.

Had a lot of fun in this costume! Perfect for a cold Canadian Halloween outing!

Coolest SeaWorld Trainer and Shamu Couple Costume 2

Homemade SeaWorld Trainer and Shamu Couple Costume

I look forward to Halloween every year, even more so now that I’m older and have a husband that is willing to dress up in whatever I make for him! This year he dressed up as Shamu, the killer whale, and I dressed up as a SeaWorld Trainer! His costume started off as a hooded sweatshirt. I added white fabric markings on the head. Then used craft foam to make triangle teeth, which I sewed on to the hood of the sweatshirt. I then made a tail and fin, using black and white fabric and pillow stuffing, and sewed them on to the back of the sweatshirt. He wore black pants and the costume was finished!

My costume was very simple. I bought a sports shirt and tights- made out of a wetsuit type material. Then I downloaded a SeaWorld logo from the internet. I printed the logo onto an iron-on-transfer, and ironed it on to the shirt. I bought a cheap whistle from the store and filled a bucket with goldfish crackers- so I could toss them at my whale and I was all set!
