Homemade Purple Dragonfly Costume

This Homemade Purple Dragonfly Costume is made out of recycled shirts, tights and ribbon found at local thrift stores.

My daughter wanted to be a dragonfly for Halloween and we searched far and wide for the perfect costume, But never found one so I decided to make one. I tried to find a leotard in her size to dye but never could find one. So while I was at the thrift store I bought a womans large white stretchy shirt for fifty cents, also bought ribbon and tights that I found there. I paid $1.75 for all.

I then went to the grocery store and bought purple rit dye. Came home and placed fabric, Dye, and water in the pot. 30 minutes later I rinsed all fabric and dried in the dryer. Next I laid out the shirt and cut a leotard pattern out of it then sewed it together.

I then made the wings out of old wire hangers by stretching the tights over all the wings and gluing them in place. I made glue lines on the wings and dumped glitter on them. Next I made a harness out of left over fabric for the wings to stay in place on her back. I also cut a pair of tights on the crotch then put her arms through them to make sleeves. Next was the tail. I used stuffing out of a pillow and stuffed to make the tail and then I tied ribbon around little sections. I secured the tail by sewing it to the wings.

Last was the headband made of leftover fabric from the shirt. I just sewed them to ends together. Completed is my little dragonfly!

Homemade Fly Costume

My oldest son was going as a praying mantis, so we decided his little brother needed to be a fly. I created this Homemade Fly Costume over night with materials I had at home. The body is a pant and shirt set sewn out of grey felt. The wings were are made from 2 wire coat hangers, white panty hose, electrical tape and a sharpie marker.

I bent the hangers into 'wing' shapes and then stretched panty hose over them. I taped them at the top and then cut off the excess wire and material. After making sure all cut ends were covered with electrical tape, I covered them with adhesive Velcro, so they would attach to the back of the felt shirt. Using the sharpie marker, I drew on the details of the wings.

The head of the fly is a black stocking hat with 2 red felt balls sewn on top and details drawn on with a black sharpie marker.

This costume was very simple and took about 2 hours to complete.

Homemade Bag of Groceries Costume

Homemade Bag of Groceries Costume

My Homemade Bag of Groceries Costume was made with a paper towel box, brown postal paper, empty grocery items, and a hot glue gun. I glued paper around box then glued groceries on top.cut a hole in top for my head to come up then I went to jewel and got brown bag and cut out jewel logo and glued on front.

I took a costume wrapper and printed out a picture of Chuckie and glued to side then cut hole for my face and made my face like Chuckie, it looks like a costume. A friend came up with this years ago and we put this one together and we had a great time and people kept asking to take pictures with me.

I then went to a Halloween party and won the grand prize for best costume. I hope you try it and enjoy it as much as we have.

Homemade Butterfly Ballerina Costume

The skirt of this Butterfly Ballerina Costume is several layers of tulle with some feather butterflies sewn on. The hair is 3 combs with butterflies hot glued to wire about 10 per comb.

I sewed some more butterflies to a ribbon and made a finger loop at each end and then wrapped them around the arms.

I found the wand at a florist and it just seemed perfect so I bought it.
