Homemade Octomom and Kate Gosselin Costumes
This year for Halloween, my friend and I decided to dress up in Homemade Octomom and Kate Gosselin Costumes. We thought these two women were a good combination. Considering I have long hair, we thought it would be better if I were Octomom. I had to dye it black, therefore I used temporary hair dye, and then parted it to the side. I exaggerated my lips to look fuller, with lip liner and gloss. I made sure to buy sunglasses that had the same shape as the ones she wears. I wore a hoodie and jeans, and bought eight dolls and a bag to hold them in. I made sure to buy two girls and six boys, to match her octuplet's gender.
Since my friend dresses similar to Kate Gosselin on a regular basis, she only had to buy a blond wig to make this costume. She already owned the sunglasses, purse, hoop earrings, necklace and appropriate clothing. She also had the magazine with the Gosselin family in it.
It took only 15 minutes to cut a regular blond wig, into Kate`s hairdo. Unfortunately, in the beginning, we couldn`t get the one side of the wig to stay down without barrettes, but eventually it stayed in place.
To make the Octomom costume, you need: Big sunglasses A pair of jeans A hoodie Black hair (or a black wig) parted to the side Lip gloss and lip liner Eight baby dolls (two girls and six boys) A bag or big purse to put the dolls in
To make the Kate Gosselin costume: Big sunglasses Hoop earrings Necklace A pair of jeans A big purse A magazine with Jon Gosselin in it A sweater A blond wig cut to look like Kate Gosselin`s famous hairdo
Items you will need to make these Octomom and Paparazzi Homemade Costumes:
Blanket or baby sling 8 baby dolls (bought for $1 each at Dollar Tree) Black Wig (bought for $8 at Halloween Costume Store) Lipstick Big Black “Glamour” Sunglasses White Paper Safety Pins Camera Dollars
My husband and I did this costume for our yearly Halloween Camping trip and won 1st place in the contest. Everyone loved the costume and recognized it right away.
This costume is pretty easy and not too pricey to do either. For the Octomom costume all you have to do is throw on the black wig, big black “Hollywood” glasses and some red lipstick (outline lips a little bigger). You can take a small blanket and tie it behind your back and stick the baby dolls in it. My husband and a few friends were my Paparazzi. I printed out some signs and safety pinned them to their backs. They said: Star, National Enquirer, TMZ, etc. All of them were all equipped with cameras and yelled out Nadya! Nadya! with a few questions too.
While they were in action I was posing like crazy for the cameras. One thing I thought of doing after was having some dollars and waving them around too.
My ten year old daughter had a Halloween party today and there was going to be a costume contest. She has long outgrown the store bought costumes and wanted to make something unique. We actually got our idea of a Homemade Octomom Halloween Costume after looking at some of the costumes on this website.
We saw the Morticia Addams costume holding a baby and immediately thought Angelina Jolie. I then remembered how everyone compared Octo Mom to Angelina and told my daughter. She LOVED the idea. We searched People.com for some old shots of her and almost every paparazzi pic she was in a tee, sweats flip flops and had a Starbucks.
So off to the store we went. We found eight small cloth dolls, a long black wig, big stunna shades and hoop ear rings. Some of the kids at the Halloween party didn't quite understand her costume but all the parents thought it was a riot!
I decided to go to a Halloween party and parade dressed as the Octomom, considering it was current for 2009. This Octomom costume was easy to make.
I needed eight baby dolls from the Dollar store, an infant sling, a hospital gown, a black wig and slippers. I put on eight hospital bracelets and wrote the actual names of all the babies on them. Wax lips from the candy store completed the look.
Since I wanted to be able to talk and eat with the lips on, I drilled holes on the sides and attached a fine elastic cord to them which I stained a flesh color. It was definitely a huge hit the entire evening.

My husband made his viking hat from a paper bag and duct tape. His shield is a party platter wrapped in tin foil and sealed with duct tape. We had already had the axe from another costume.
Nadia's baby carrier is made from a shawl and pin. The babies are from the dollar store. The wig was purchased at a costume store. We planned our costumes separately, but when we were standing together, it seemed like the Viking would have made the perfect donor for the eight babies.
We marched in our local parade with this Homemade Octomom and Sperm Donor Couple Costume and got a lot of laughs.
