My sixteen year old daughter wanted to be Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas for Halloween, so of course I obliged her.

I searched for a dress pattern that had the basic shape of Sally’s dress and sewed that pattern from old bed sheets. I then started collecting scrap fabrics in the basic colors that we need to try and match Sally’s dress. There were some we couldn’t find, so we used fabric paint, and I also embroidered the fabric to make it match.

I cut the pieces to match the patchwork shapes on Sally’s dress and attached those to the basic bed sheet dress I had already sewn. I added the patches, and we purchased a white turtle neck and leggings. When the entire thing was sewn together, my daughter hand stitched the yarn stitches all over the dress, turtleneck and leggings using pics we found on line to try and make it as exact as possible.

I also created the yarn wig, by first crocheting a simple skull cap, then tying super long bundles of hair to it.

This Sally (Nightmare Before Christmas) Costume was one of the most fun costumes I’ve ever made. AND my daughter LOVES it!! :D

Coolest Sally Ragdoll from the Nightmare Before Christmas Costume 77

My 6 year old daughter wanted to be Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas but the costume did not come in her size... ANYWHERE so, we decided to make it.

I headed to the local thrift store and found different fabrics to match the patches from the dress. I originally was going to glue all the patches onto a dress but we could not find a dress that would work. We found a woman's purple blouse that worked perfectly as a dress for my 6 year old daughter! I cut the thrift clothes into patches and glued them onto the purple dress/blouse using flexible stretchable fabric glue.

I used black fabric marker to draw the swirls, dots and stripes onto the purple. We found stocking with stitches at the costume store and striped black and white socks at the dollar store. She used her regular black school shoes. I drew stitches onto her arms and painted her face blue using face paint. I drew black stitches on her face with the face paint.

The Sally Ragdoll from the Nightmare Before Christmas Costume was fun, easy and cheap! A big hit!

Wow, I love it! It looks like you sewed it! I cant believe it's glued! Great

yep, it's glue!

Yes, it's glued. Make sure you use STRETCHABLE, FLEXIBLE cloth glue! The regular cloth glue may not adhere to something that is too porous.

Coolest Homemade Pumpkin King Costume 34

Homemade Pumpkin King Costume

The Homemade Pumpkin King Costume idea isn't original but I decided to host a Nightmare before Christmas Halloween party at my house this year. There were several ways I wanted to approach this costume idea. The easiest way was to buy one, but where's the fun in that? So I got the sewing pattern at Wal Mart and my teacher and I sewed it up which took a few hours, but the the thing that took the longest was painting all of those pinstripes on the outfit.

Then I made the mask out of paper mache and painted the face on it. Bought a pair of skeleton gloves at party city and got a white choir shirt and black dress shoes from my closet. The bow tie is just a black piece of foam and my neck was painted white.

It took a long time but it was a labor of love.
