This year was my son's first Halloween going to school. He wanted something unique but really likes mummies. My first thought was "ok mummies are boring costumes" but I wanted him to dress as something he'd like, so went ahead and went with the Homemade Mummy Halloween Costume.
I didn't know what kind of material to use since I'm not a very good sewer. His first idea was to wrap himself in toilet paper. We decided to go with manta, we first made the body suit and mask which by the way was VERY hard but not impossible. Then we tore strips of the fabric which worked good because when you would tear it, it had like a old look to it. We must of tore like 100 strips of fabric.
After that we glued them on with some glue. I gotta say I'm very proud of it. I have a new respect for mummies. Happy Halloween!
All fall I was thinking of a Halloween costume, when I finally thought of a mummy. Tried to find an already made one online, but none of them appealed to me. I also wanted to be a cute mummy. So I decided to make my own Homemade Mummy Girl Costume.
I started by buying a nightgown. Next I bought a couple of rolls of gauze and some premade bloody gauze at the Halloween store. I sewed the bloody gauze around the bottom of the nightgown so it would more of flow off my body then sticking to it. Next I sewed the top of the dress with the bloody gauze so I know it would be secure.
Then I started to wrap the midsection in figure eights with both type of gauze. Added some more fake blood, an arm wrap, and some bruises and I created a mummy.

This Homemade Mummy Halloween Costume was very easy to make and very inexpensive. We started with some old sheets. My daughter had lots of fun helping to tear them into strips (make sure you tell them NEVER to do this with your good sheets). Then we soaked them in tea in the kitchen sink to get away from the white color.
Once they were dry I used fabric glue to attach the strips to an old pair of sweats and a hoodie. I wanted to make sure she stayed warm. It was a lot of fun to make and a first for me. And my daughter has got lots of compliments about the outfit. The whole thing cost less than $10. I just have to paint her face and she's ready to go.

My daughter wanted to be a mummy Bride, so I found a white dress, and sewed gauze and spiders to it. Then to give it the aged look, I got brown fabric paint and brushed it onto the dress and the gauze.
Then for the veil, I bought see through material and sewed it around a headband, sewed spiders and brushed it with the paint. For the finishing touches of the Homemade Mummy Bride Halloween Costume, we painted her face black and white, and sprayed her hair with black and white hair spray.

This Homemade Mummy Halloween Costume was the inspiration came from a Hallmark Halloween ornament. I am a graphic designer and love creating costumes as a creative outlet. I always put extra time into my 3 kids costumes due to a local parade we enter yearly.
The mummy was put together with staples and a hot glue gun. I used cushion foam as the framework. The face was made like a pillow with sewn handwork then painted, eyes are ping pong balls. The spider on top was bought from a store.
