Homemade Cast Away Couple Costume

Every year my fiance, Aaron's, family has a big Halloween party and there's a costume competition. His dad and step mom always win the Best Costume Award and we were determined to steal it from them this year so we were trying to think of something creative that no one else has done before. We went through a list of well-known movies and since one of Aaron and his dad's favorite movies is the movie "Cast Away" he came up with the idea of us being Tom Hanks and the volleyball, Wilson.

This homemade Cast Away couple costume was pretty cheap to make, it just required a lot of paper-mache. My younger siblings already had a 4-ft. blow-up beach ball that I borrowed to use as the mold for Wilson. I paper-mached a couple layers around the beach ball and after it dried I just deflated it and took it out. Then I cut holes for my arms, head, and torso. After that I spray painted the ball white and then hand-painted the Wilson print on the front just looking off of an image I got off the internet.

For Aaron's costume I just bought a piece of cloth and cut it to look a little weathered and we wrapped it around him and just tucked it into the top of his gym shorts. I bought him a caveman wig and printed out the Fed-Ex logo and glued it onto a box to use as a little prop. We also made a fake pocket watch with Helen Hunt's picture on the backside for an added prop.

Needless to say... when we got to the party and his dad and step mom saw us all they said was..."crap!"

Kirsten, you've inspired me and my girlfriend. I was wondering where your boyfriend got the wig. I found one that looks similar but its in black.

Hi, great costume idea! For wilson do I cut the back ann the way to step inside or how should I get inside the costume once made?

nice work

Really want to do this for halloween this year!

A couple questions - how did you get into the costume? Did you cut out the back?

Also, did you let the paper mache dry between layers?

Thanks for your help!!

I believe I cut it with a box cutter. I cut a large hole in the bottom for my body and a small hole on top for my head. My fiance just lifted it up and I got in it through the bottom hole. I didn't wear it for the whole party because it's uncomfortable seeing as you can't really sit down in it.

Coolest Zombieland Couple Costume

Zombieland Couple Costume

Zombieland Couple Costume

My boys wanted to dress up as a couple of their favorite zombie hunters, Columbus (left) and Tallahassee (right) from Zombieland. For Columbus, I curled my older sons’ hair (well, as best I could) and only had to purchase a cap gun. He already had the blue button-up shirt and blue hoodie for the outfit. I wrote the Zombieland “Rules” as a list down the front of his shirt and had to add a few rules that were missing from the movie (and additional websites I perused).

For Tallahassee I borrowed a cowboy hat from a friend and we already had the dark blue shirt, jeans jacket and necklace. I purchased a short hand gun and he wanted to add a plastic knife he already owned. I bought brown vinyl from a fabric store and stitched up a gun holder for his leg. Missing from the picture: The Twinkie.

Coolest Devil Wears Prada Costume

The Devil Wears Prada Costume

The Devil Wears Prada Costume

This Devil Wears Prada costume was really easy to make! You'll need:

Devil Costume
Devil Horns
Iron-On Letters (3 packs to spell out Prada several times)
Stockings

I purchased a basic female Devil costume with horns. I took the Iron-on letters and arranged onto the costume the word "Prada" in several different places. Once I had them arranged where I wanted, I then followed the package directions and ironed them to the costume. Make sure you follow the iron-on instructions for the material the costume is made of (I had to use a very low heat setting).

If this were for someone other than a child I would purchase a shorter devil costume and put some super sexy shoes with it (kinda like the one's worn in the movie).

Supplies:
Vest
Hat
Tight black jeans
Boots
Strips of leather
Faux bone
3/8 yard of alligator print from fabric store
Hot glue gun
Staple gun
Fake knife
Brown belt
Spray tan (as needed) for outback look

Most items for this Homemade Crocodile Dundee Costume I had around the house but Goodwill is a good place to start. The idea is not to spend a lot and still have a better costume than buying at a spirit store piecing a look together that will not cost a lot but still have a great effect...

The only costume that was not homemade was Frank-n-furter. The rest of the Rocky Horror Picture Show Group Costume was put together by us. We frequented the thrift store, and craft store.
