My 3 year old son fell in love with Monster Inc. at the end of the summer and decided that he wanted to be Mike Wazowski for Halloween. I looked around to buy a costume and found nothing. Since I can sew I decided that it wouldn’t be too hard to make my own Homemade Mike Wazowski Unique Boy's Halloween Costume Idea.

I bought lime green fleece and a pattern for a kids pumpkin costume. Then I made the jumpsuit, the shoe covers and the body all out of fleece and cotton. Then I cut out the eye and mouth from black and white felt and sewed them to the front of the body. I got a craft foam yellow construction hat from Michael’s and painted it blue, printed the Monster Inc. ‘M’ with the eye onto a packing label and stuck it on the hat.

He loved the costume and we got tons of compliments all night trick or treating. I also attempted to make a Sully- esque hat out of fleece, but it didn’t turn out as good as I wanted, I wore it anyways. Very easy and fun costume!!

Homemade Mike Wasowski Costume

Homemade Mike Wasowski Costume

My girlfriend was sick of looking for a costume where all she could find were 'sexy' versions of characters. So about 2 months prior to Halloween she suggested that she should find the most random and unflattering costume about and jokingly mentioned a Homemade Mike Wasowski Costume from Monsters Inc. After a few days I came back to her and asked how serious she was about the idea.

To work I went with a large exercise ball, some newspaper, plaster bandage and paint! I basically just started paper macheing onto the inflated ball adding some plaster bandage for strength. I waited till it dried, cut the holes for her and gave it a paint job. The horns are the pointy bits out of egg cartons.

We had a friend of ours sew a green lycra body suit that covered her arms and legs and a simple toy construction helmet painted blue on her head.

She was a hit of the party but couldn't sit down so it came off near the end of the night. She's going to hate me for putting this up!

my daughter is 1 1/2 (looks just like boo) and my husband towers us both. Jokingly, I suggested to a friend that we were going to go as the Monsters Inc. clan and they loved it - thanks for the idea!

Great Costume

It looks great - good work! ...and good on her for choosing such an original idea and rejecting the sexy skank costumes out there. Halloween is much more fun without the bimbos in bustiers pretending they are wearing a costume! My daughter loves the idea!

Getting in...
by: Anonymous

I LOVE this costume & want to try to make it this weekend. One question; how do you get in & out of it? Thanks.

Getting in
by: Al

the costume just slips on and off over her head. To her credit, she keep it on for almost the entire night only caving right at the end of the party cause she couldn't sit down in it!

good luck folks!

Inflate or deflate?
by: Anonymous

Just wondering do you cut holes when the ball is inflated or deflated because mine isn't strong enough without the ball inflated. If I cut it when it's inflated would it deflate?

When to cut
by: Al

You'll need to use plaster bandage to strengthen the ball first. Then deflate ( I left an joke in the bottom) remove the ball, then cut the holes. Hope this helps.

If I'd made this now, I'd use some fiberglass for extra strength and sculpt the horns myself but if you're after a cheap, simple option this'll work a treat.

Good luck,
Al.

I decided to make Ross his favorite character out of Monsters inc. It is also Ross's birthday on Halloween so we like to do something special for him. He will be entering the Halloween procession at his school.

I made the Homemade Mike Wazowski Costume using a gym ball and papermache. I covered the ball several times till the ball was hard. Need to be very careful not to cover the plug or else we need to burst the ball inside. I made the eye out of a balloon and more papermache and stuck it to the large ball. I cut a hole in the center of the eye and the mouth to allow Ross to see where he is going. I cut holes for his arms and body too. Ross is wearing green trousers and top and also his daddy's slippers.

I got the idea from a costume that I made last year for my other son, it was a pumpkin made in exactly the same way but a scary one and he held a torch inside to make it glow.

Homemade Mike Wazowski Halloween Costume

Homemade Mike Wazowski Halloween Costume

I coach high school field hockey and their Homecoming theme was Disney. Luckily, it fell just before Halloween, so I was able to use this Homemade Mike Wazowski Halloween Costume for both.

I used a work out ball and paper mached it. I painted it and cut out the holes for it. I had originally wanted to not have my head stick out but I didn't make it big enough, so I just cut the head hole out. I used old monster hands for the feet and hands and painted them green and taped them on.

It won me first place at my work for Halloween.
It was fun to make and very time consuming.

I've loved the Monsters, Inc. movie for years and always wanted to make a Mike Wazowski costume. When I started to throw away a plastic salad bowl I realized it would make the perfect eyeball for Mike!

I sewed the body out of lime green fleece with elastic at the top, bottom and around the section that held the eyeball. I borrowed the idea from another of your costume creator's to spray paint a kid's construction helmet and put the logo on. Found a top and pants at Goodwill and here's the Homemade Mike Wazowski Halloween Costume Idea.

Had a blast wearing it... might have to attempt Sully next year.
