Homemade Mario and Luigi Couple Costume
We are both named Amanda and we are roommates in college. We wanted to have a theme for a costume. Since we are in college we did this Homemade Mario and Luigi Couple Costume with NO Money!
Our Green and Red shirts were bought from Forever 21 at store in our local mall. Checkered hats bought at PayLess were spray painted white first since it was so hard to cover. Then spray-painted over and over again Green and Red. We added felt to the hats. Since they were sprayed so many times, it was like a rock hard and stuck easily, with hot glue.
We went to Goodwill and found an overall dress perfect for one costume and a baby overall for the other costume which we had to cut open and sew into a skirt. We added yellow felt to the front of the overalls to look like the buttons. White gloves we bought at the store.

Homemade Mario and Luigi Couple Halloween Costume
We are poor college students, so we wanted to do our Homemade Mario and Luigi Couple Halloween Costume for cheap. Instead of buying overalls that we would never wear again, we took some old jeans and cut them up to make the overall fronts.
We bought our hats for about eight dollars and just added the letters ourselves. We found some gloves for under two dollars at Target, which I think added a nice detail. The mustaches were from a package that my brother had lying in his room. The shirts and jeans we already owned. We also had a Peach and Toad dress up and follow us around, but unfortunately, there are not any pictures of all four of us.
They might not be the most professional looking costumes, but I think they get the point across without hurting our bank accounts. We definitely got a lot of approving comments from everyone we saw!
I'm one of the leaders for the middle and high school-aged ministry at the church I attend, and we are constantly having competitions for costumes and fun things to get kids interested in church. A competition for Halloween arose, and my obsession with video games since childhood led to this inspiration of a Homemade Super Mario Costume.
I borrowed the overalls from a friend of mine who had them. I already had the pair of Timberland boots, and the shirt and hat. Thankfully, the Redskins have same colored apparel as Nintendo's favorite hero. I just turned the shirt inside-out, and glued a cut-out "M" over the Redskins logo on the hat. Another friend of mine had some unused costume accessories, hence the white gloves!
Total cost: A bunch of borrowed items. So, FREE!
A friend snapped the picture while I was doing one of my favorite hobbies, Skateboarding!
My boys love Mario and Luigi video games and really wanted to be them for the annual Halloween costume contest at school. There was nothing in the marketplace at the time so I had to pull everything together and make my own Mario and Luigi Halloween Costumes.
The masks were pieced together using felt; the nose was stuffed with paper to make it stand out. I just added yellow buttons to jean overalls. I also used felt to decorate their candy bags with various "one-up" mushrooms (2nd pic) and Donkey Kong made a surprise appearance on Halloween night! Both of my boys ended up winning the costume contest for 2nd and 3rd grade -- they were so happy!

Loved making this Homemade Halloween Super Mario Costume! Spend about 30 bucks total on this. I'm on a budget. I'm sure you may even spend less than that! Fun to make and my son wore it until there were holes in it!
