My two sons wanted to have a costume theme together but couldn't agree on anything. They love video games of course and I suggested a Mario and Luigi costume, but we didn't like the ideas we had seen. We came up with Bobble Head Mario and Luigi.
Using the kitchen table for a month was a sore spot with hubby, but it was worth it. Two beach balls and Styrofoam, paper mache', craft paint, felt for the hats and logo, hot glue (with blisters!), fuzzy yarn for the hair. Preowned overalls and sweatshirts.
Painted wooden circle for buttons. These were a bit heavy and I didn't want the kids to get hurt so we constructed a back and head support from PVC, duct tape and old school backpacks. Cut large slits in the mustaches so they could see and breathe of course!
They were the happiest boys on the block and we saw priceless brother bonding! Oh and now we have the kitchen table back, no more "picnics" on the living room floor. Hubby is happy, kids not so much!
My wife and I needed an idea for Halloween couples and since our family plays video games together with our kids, we thought a Mario and Luigi Halloween costume would be good. Plus, the kids loved the costumes.
I purchased all of the items from a Hancock fabric store (except the gloves and shirt, shoes) and sewed each pair of overalls for my wife and I and fashioned some buttons from felt together costumes for each of us.
Then I purchased acrylic paints from a local Michaels store and painted the hats and mushroom. The hats and mushroom are made from ½” foam glued together with hot glue gun.
We took first place at our local Halloween party. Homemade costumes are the best! Hope you enjoy!

Homemade Super Mario Brothers Office Costume
My company holds a costume and area decorating contest every Halloween so my buddy Shawn and I decided to take this opportunity very seriously. We decided to go with a Mario Brother theme and go as Mario and Luigi and deck out our entire work area as the original Super Mario Brothers as released on the best ever NES "Nintendo Entertainment System" circa 1985.
We hand made the Homemade Super Mario Brothers Office Costume, including the gloves which I was making minutes before the judging with felt sheets, stuffing and a stapler. Our backdrop included the opening screen from the game, level one, and the underground level, including many characters including Koopa.
Here is what you'll need to make these Mario and Luigi Costumes:
- Blue high-waist pants or blue overalls (We were just so lucky we found those DESIGNER pants at Ross for like, $20...) - American Apparel t-shirts (we just cut the V neck) - White gloves and mustaches from Party City - Hats from an online store - Buttons were made from a felt sticker, as well as the M/L letters on the hats. We just bought the felt, cut it in the right size and shape, and painted the letters with a pen for fabrics - Black suspenders - HIGH HEELS!
My friend and I created this Homemade Mario Brothers Costume. We grew out our mustaches for 2 months and stenciled out logos for our hats. We made fireballs out of multi-colored paper, color coordinated to match with the corresponding character.
We bought overalls from salvation army and got the appropriate long sleeved shirts and shoes for each brother. All ya need after that is some good Italian accents and you're good to go!

I really wanted to be Mario for Halloween. But I wanted to be my favorite version: Raccoon Mario from Mario Bros. 3.
I had a lot of fun making this Mario Bros Halloween costume. The overalls, shirt, and boots were bought at thrift stores. The hat and tail were both custom made and sewn by my girlfriend and the mustache was grown by my face.
